Is there any word on whether or not the anime will be released stateside in the near future? Or am I going to have to become fluent in Japanese and buy a plane ticket (along with a region 2 DVD player) so I can own it?

The first six volumes of the manga version are available in English from Tokyopop's Blu label,

Actually I recalled reading Vol 7 recently & my account over at Right Stuf confirms it shipped 9/22.

Didn't Kadokawa say they were releasing it? The same people who licensed The Third. They seem to move rather slow, but they have good titles. They usually partner with a different distributor project by project.
