I can only imagine that DVD orders will be cut similarly for the B&M stores for this holiday. Except for Walmart. They'll probably order MORE cheap crap. |

This sounds a little alarmist to me but we'll see how things go. After this holiday season, either the economy will be looking better (whether anyone wants to admit it or not) or it'll be slightly less apocalyptic than the hyperbole floating around right now. Not surprised GNs are taking a pounding though. A lot of shelfspace for a very few titles.
Wouldn't it be nice to have an all-manga/GN retail chain? Too bad the grazing cows make it an impossible dream. |

Doesn't surpise me, with the economy in the pits. Retailers are trying to cut back on anything they can. At least Manga's aren't hit as bad with illegal download like anime is. I mean, it's much nicer reading the book anywhere then to look at a computer screen and read the text which may or may not be as clear.

The economy sucks, so its a good idea that they're preparing to curb a mass of unsold goods.
At least fans can take solace in knowing this isn't just an "America's getting rid of anime everywhere" thing. |

Totally agreeing with you there, its much nicer and faster in my opinion. Sucks to hear about the news though, but there are probably other factors as well in this. |

I still buy manga in this economy, just not in book stores cause they never have want I want any ways.

Geez, I dunno, I see tons of kids grazing in the young adult fiction section too. Also, America's manga sales are actually quite strong and growing (until recently with the economy) while it's shrinking in a lot of East Asian countries who shrinkwrap everything and can't allow grazing. Comic book stores exist, you know. |

Thats not good. I'm in Canada, so I'm not familiar with those stores, but I imagine the same applies to big Canadian retailers like Chapters/Coles.
Well I'm still working and making money and I'm still buying anime and manga. |

I hope this doesn't mean jobs have to be cut at boarders or Barnes and Noble. I've shopped at both stores recently, these stores have a great selection of manga. However even with my job and occasional merchandice selling, I've had to cut back on the number of manga I've been perchasing.
Admitiningly, I do read manga online, but I also purchase manga as well. Since I a member of Netflix, I don't often buy dvds. Despite Karin being availble on Netflix, I did decide to continue to purchase the remainder dvds simply because I've enjoyed the series so much. The Economy isn't doing so well in the US, so I try my best to support Viz Media and other companies the best I can. Hopefully the economy will get a slight boast around Holiday's though, the more revenue the better. |

Oh No, Dude, Thats where i get all my manga's sadly! How could they do that? my christmas list is 95% anime! what. the. heck. Oh well, im sure something will happen that will either help the store or hurt it in some way. Guess i better order them now before it gets to late...

You can still order the books you want; especially, for long running series that you're heavily invested in. For me, that's Viz Media's Monster. I'm a single volume away from completing the series and my B&N stopped carrying it, after volume fifteen; I've been ordering every subsequent volume since.
This news doesn't worry me. This is going to be par for course for every retailer this holiday season. They just don't want to get buckled under unnecessary overstock that won't sell. And that makes perfect sense. Now, if publishers start announcing more cancellations of their books and solicitations begin disappearing, THEN I'll be really concerned. |

 I love Borders.
If worse comes to worse, I'll order from RightStuf, but the news sucks. If it's a series that I really like which is cut, it's not going to be good. I like my Borders Rewards card. x.x |
