This likely means a longer wait for FMP fans................

I agree with you. It has been almost twq and a half years since The Second Raid OAV, an more than three years since TSR. Why are you waiting for KyoAni?

Well, at least we'll get Munto

I've been waiting so long for a third movie, but a series is great news. Now I wonder if they'll pick up where the movies ended or retell the story from the very beginning.

I suppose I'm cautiously optimistic. I never saw it, but a friend of mine who also digs KyoAni wasn't very impressed by it. Like, at all, and he's totally nuts for whatever they release.

I saw Munto when KyoAni or who ever else officially offered it up for free online, in three parts. It wasn't subtitled, but I got the gist of it.

It wasn't great, really, but the world attracted me. Hopefully, they'll flesh it out a bit more this time.

Most people don't remember Munto even existed. In fact, I'm certain most people had never heard of it before the cameo in Lucky Star. For that reason, I don't see KyoAni continuing on with the story, alienating most of their viewers. I think they're going to start from the beginning, maybe even retcon-ing some story elements, who knows.

I wonder why the decision was made to remake this. The show doesn't seem to be that well known, and I definitely hadn't head of it before this article. Maybe the studio enjoyed working on the show, and so decided to give it another try? That would bode well for a remake. I'll be interested to see how this turns out.

When this first came out, you had to order it directly from KyoAni directly within Japan. It was fairly obscure.

Cool they're making it, I guess?

I recall seeing random copies of the original Munto in random Best Buys, but having never heard of it, never bothered buying it.

And I'll be optimistic about FMP. Maybe they're waiting until there's enough material to make a half-year series, instead of only 12 or 13 episodes. I can hope. Anime cry

I got it from Netflix a couple of years ago, before I had ever heard of KyoAni, and was really impressed with the animation, it's no surprise to me they are doing so well now. The story was a little odd, hopefully the series will not end like the OVA's did, the animation was great but at the end I was like WTF!!

I actually like the Munto story, and I have seen both movies... however I would have liked it if they would have continued with a 3rd movie because I'm not too sure a T.V. series would help whatever fanbase Munto still has anymore.

Yeah, I'd be ecstatic if Kyoto Animation ran a full third (fourth) season. I will also hope.

Hopefully it will be completed finally.

I have the first 2 titles at home and liked them a lot. I'm glad that their original project is getting some love at last. Munto fans have been begging for more Munto and will now get their wish.

With more experience under their belts now and a bigger budget, this can be a great title. It had all the elements for being a tear jerking coming of age fantasy action title in the first 2 releases. Now we'll really going to see how tragic things can get.

Munto is kyoani's baby; everything they're famous for is an adaption. You get to keep a much bigger slice of the pie, from the merchandising and so forth, with original works; there's no gensakusha or so forth that you have to share it with. So, you might make more money even if the work's less popular in absolute terms.

Which is the cynical explanation. Munto-the-original has some interesting ideas, but narratively it's a complete mess, about as well-structured as a bowl of jelly... that just fell from the third floor. So it'd be hard for a remake to be worse, and if they've got spare capacity [ie, noone's paying them enough to make new works to keep busy; likely, if what we here about the japanese anime market is true], they could either do something on spec or sack people, and the first's probably more fun.

Oh, so Munto is an original?

I've heard of it before and saw some clips of it but I never knew it was animated by KyoAni.

I wonder if I should look forward to this remake.

based on the novel back ground they could do a short for the next one Dancing very merry Christmas but from then on they would half to keep up the story to prevent ending a season with a clifhanger
