I like Macross as much as the next guy, but I have to wonder how they find enough material to fill 24 issues a year. Especially in the 13 year gap between the previous Macross TV series and Frontier.

And in related news, the giant Tatsunoko/Big West/ Harmony Gold clog still baffles Water slide doctors who, out of sheer confusion, have sent in more children in a dumbfounded mannor to unblock it.

They've already been doing it with multiple publications dedicated to UC Gundam for much, much longer.

I can't wait to not be able to purchase this in the U.S. Thanks Harmony Gold!

Since the embargo on anything Macross-related thanks to HG, I'm not well versed on the manga adaptations of Macross (All I can think of is Macross 7 : Trash and the recent Frontier manga), but couldn't this simply be an adaptation of the original SDF : Macross? Having Mikimoto on board would make sense for that.

Well,

Macross
Macross: Do You Remember Love?
Macross Plus
Macross 7
Macross 7 Trash
Macross Zero
Macross Frontier

That's sixty to seventy years (in-world) of lore to create, expand on, or to fill in the gaps. This doesn't include all of the characters and technology there is to write about. Plus, any behind the scenes things there could be.

This is sweet news. I was wondering why Mikimoto had nothing to do with Macross F. I'm glad to see he's still working on the Macross series.

Mikimoto's recent work (post gunbuster) sucks.
Just look at the illustration for the release of 2012:

Hopefully he will do this WITHOUT cg.

Um yeah,

I tend to think that someone who is still getting Macross assignments after over 20 years probably HASN'T "lost it"!

Until I see a better scan of the art in question that shows an undeniable decrease in skills, it looks to me like Mikimoto still has it...

Frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing another Macross or movie featuring his design work. Everything since M7 hasn't really looked that appealing.

Heck, most Japanese design work nowadays (in anime, at least) has an overly derivative generic look. It'd be nice to see SOMEONE'S signature work stick out instead of the seemingly same 3 or 4 designers we get all the time in the US releases.

You might want to use an image that is of his most recent work to prove your point which I feel has no merit since you used a low res image of something that has tons of detail. He did that piece years ago for the first DVD release of Flashback.

Here is something he did in the last year when he wasn't pressed for deadlines working on ECOLE DU CIEL.

Here is an interesting fact he let us know at a q&a last Feb, he still uses Photoshop 4 and painter 5.

Just go to your locak BookOff (if'n you're in the Los Angeles or New York areas), or order it off of any of the fine etailers who have many Bothan lives to sacrifice to get you this information Smile . That's what I'm going to do once this finally makes it to Tankoubon format. I've been an avid collector of Gundam the Origin, now I'm frothing at the mouth for Macross the Origin, and Frank Agrama can go bite my shiny metal ass!

There has been no manga version IIRC of the original Macross series. That's why I'm hoping (as I mentioned above) that this is the Macross counterpart to Gundam the Origin (which was likewise also drawn and written by the original character designer, in that case Yoshikazu Yasuhiko).
