Oh, GOD that tennis match episode was the most groan-worthy episode I have ever seen. And yes, due to the utter blandness of the Hikari/Amane couple, I was never a fan of them (I wasn't even too much of a fan of them in the light novels as well). Ugh, you know if we had the same character development and dynamics like in Marimite combined with the amount of yuri in Strawberry Panic, we could have gotten the yuri series to be reckoned with. Why the heck hasn't the Japanese realize this! Mad

I agree with Carl almost 100% on this one. Like him, my opinion of this series had elevated after seeing volume 4, but this one brought it crashing down again. I couldn't even find the blatant The Graduate rip-off to be satisfying, and even the prominent usage of fan service seemed a bit rough. Let's not even get into how little sense the final few scenes made, either.

I agree, I was let down by volume 5 versus what was built up in volume 4.

Swing and a miss is the best I can come up with. Everything was resolved, but the results had me heading back to the dugout.

Still, it was worth the discounted price for the series, and I (not even knowing how to view a fansub), would have never seen it otherwise do not regret the buying decision.

All said, I actually loved the ending for Strawberry Panic. ^^ It was as melodramatic as the rest of the series, but it just worked for me, and I like how everybody got a solid, conclusive ending. But I agree (along with virtually every other person who's watched this series) that Nagisa and Shizuma are much more interesting than Hikari and Amane. You know that there's something wrong with them when it's more interesting to watch Yaya wrest with her feelings for Hikari, than seeing Hikari and Amane together. But for just being what it is, a cute, Harlequin-esque yuri romance, it does the job for me. Anime smile

From start to finish, for what it was, I thought it was a cute, charming yuri series. It may not be as great as say Simoun, but it didn't set out to be a great series but a lightly entertaining fun one. Even if the side-characters were less interesting, I still liked how this series tried covering the variety of characters throughout its whole run. So with everything said, I could consider this a guilty-pleasure series I feel no guilt in watching and enjoying on my own.

The first 19 or 20 episodes were absolutely wonderful, but then.... just like Carl said, there was just TOO much wasted screen time. The Yaya x Hikari relationship was very interesting to watch, but concludes in such a weak fashion...
Amane wasn't only uninteresting, she was a pain to watch. She served no purpose whatsoever, yes the tennis match was dumb, but did you guys forget about the amnesia chapter? That was beyond ridiculous.

But I would still like to point out the Hikari and Amane were, to me, the only weak side-characters. Yaya was a sublime character, and I kinda liked the Chikaru crew. They made the more comedic episodes a lot more enjoyable than they should be.

But like Carl said, Strawberry Panic is about Nagisa and Shizuma. Well, it's how it should have been, but sadly they don't nearly get enough screentime in this volume. The finale could have been better, but considering the last 3-4 episodes prior to that, it could have been A LOT worse than this, so I was satisfied just to get an happy ending.
