Yeah, Diamond is definitely positioning themselves to exit the distribution market. I say a hearty "sayonara" to them!

Seven Seas ... did they totally give up on Strawberry Panic (3rd light novel) and Ballad of a Shinigami? And are they never going to release Zero no Tsukaima?

It makes me sad, because they were the only company who did light novels RIGHT ... colored pages of art and small size

Sad

Tetragrammaton Labyrinth and Venus Vs. Virus were two of the series I thought I'd actually get to finish from them. Gee, thanks for making it more likely they'll be cancelled too Diamond.

You know, I've been going to a paticular comic shop for more than a decade. They've had their ups and downs, grown overall and are run by people who really understand how to make a comic book store work and never have I ever heard a single positive thing about Diamond from them. Not even once.

As long as they are still able to come out with Hayate X Blade and Tetragrammaton Labyrinth, I can rest easy

They have cancelled the entire light novel line, as in everything, no exceptions.

Truth be told, considering how small Seven Seas is, I am still surprized there hasn't been massive cancelations or lay offs. On a other note, Seven Seas has never licensed a series that really interested me. Aoi House was decent, but lacked orginality.

But in all this "chaos", I don't think Diamond is going anymore soon.

Aw ~ that really does make me sad, then! *sigh* ... I'll never know the ending to Strawberry Panic (light novel version) - oh well!

Does anyone know what happened to Broccoli Books (I believe it was) ... I have the first Sola, but it seems like the second was cancelled.

Anime/manga/light novels are really suffering in this "bad economy"

Broccoli books is gone. The US subsidary was shut down in january, I don't believe any of their licenses have been rescued.

As for the light novels, one things to consider is that, IN SS case, their LN's never really got a whole lot of advertisment, at all... ever. But, on the bright side, their are still some series by other companies that are going strong, so that's something.

Broccoli Books folded up shop and left us forever a while back.

Well, personally I'm glad Seven Seas finally admited that their light novel line is cancelled outright. The "it's on hold, we're waiting to see" line was such utter crap. Maybe we'll get lucky in the future and another company will relicense some of the series they didn't even try to sell like Familar of Zero.

I wonder how much each phase of producing a light novel costs since at least some levels of production (translation, editorial rewrites) are done by random people on the Internet for fun.

Wasn't the official statement like, "The market can not support light novels at this moment" or something like that? Yeah, that basically means its killed as of now. But there's no reason it cant start back up if the Haruhi novels are a runaway success. (And I think piggybacking on that success could work)

But back to topic, if Diamond doesn't want, it their loss. HayatexBlade is probably the best action/comedy out in English right now.

EDIT: Checked out Seven Seas Forums, and they did kill the line. Maybe Yen Press has some secret to making light novels feasible.

According to their forum, it costs about three (3) times more per volume of novel then manga.

Richard, we're not planning on canceling either of these series. So you need not worry.
