Sigh. Just sigh. Yet another much-loved series getting Nozomowned. I'm beginning to hate Shawn Kleckner as much as I hated Bandai Visual.

There's a difference. One is including physical extras with good packaging, and one is charging Japanese prices. If you want dubs, then you'd also have to be willing to accept FUNi as a monopoly. I would certainly take a Funi monopoly, I haven't seen a poorly done product from them in some time. I also have no need for a box full of janky extras (WTF is with that Aria..statue...thing?).
Gakuen Alice could certainly have deserved a dub, regardless of how many flowcharts and economic philosophies and blah blah blah you want to pull out. It's a cute, lighthearted series that could have easily been marketed at fans of shows like CCS, Kodocha, and so on. Some series, yes, I'll certainly agree a dub might not be feasible, and I'll say that companies certainly do their research before hand. But again, after being told by Kleckner that apparently enough people complain about their lack of dubbing to have him warranted in bringing it up, I will never think Right Stuf has a grasp on actual demographics. |

Assuming that the people who complain are the same people who would buy the dubs, it'll take more than 100 people complaining to get them to change. Do you honestly believe that they'll get several thousand more buyers in order to make some profit for a dub (at the same price point)?
RightStuf is listing this box set for $37.49 (plus 10% off for members), a very nice price for 26 eps + extras compared to double for what Funi charges for two half season boxes. |

My daughter is currently reading the manga. She's not too chuffed the anime will be sub only. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Such a waste.

Let's see. They tried to screw over fans by releasing Pumpkin Scissors, Red Garden, and Welcome to the NHK as sets. Their packaging sucks. They still never fixed their DBZ releases. That's just right off the top of my head. Oh yeah, they've also been producing DVDs with intentionally bad sectors to try to prevent piracy by screwing over paying customers.
You think just about every single series ever made deserves a dub  I'm not sure how well CCS sold, but you do realize that Kodocha didn't sell well, right? Funi hasn't even brought the rest of it over.
Sorry, but I'll trust Shawne Kleckner's grasp of the demographics over yours. As configspace said, it would take a lot more than the few people who whine and complain on these forums to make a dub profitable on a series like this. |

YEAH! I've had this on pre-order since October. I can't wait!
I'll take cheaper, complete sets that are sub only over dubbed, over priced, singles any day. Especially if it means that less popular anime can be brought over and can be brought over more quickly. I have loved every set that RightStuf has done so far. They have extras and look great; each set of Emma came with whole book of nothing but art and notes! |

First of all, there is no indication that Nozomi is in any kind of trouble. Second of all, Nozomi isn't trying to be the top dog in the industry. It's a small, niche publisher. They're strategy is clearly different than Funimation's. It's not about whether they dub titles or not. It's about what they go after. Funimation goes after mainstream shows. Hence, it's a good decision to dub them. And why the heck would you dub something to "prove" that it won't be profitable when you don't think it will? Nozomi doesn't have anything to prove to all the whiners as long as they are still making money. Have you ever even compared Funi's titles to Nozomi's? The only potentially mainstream title that Nozomi has gotten somewhat recently is The Third which they dubbed. |

Not really. Nozomi has gotten some stuff in the past that was more mainstream. I even gave an example. However, if you honestly believe a feel good series about gondoliers on Mars in which nothing really happens, a character driven series with yuri undertones set in a Catholic all girls school, or a series set in old England about a forbidden romance between a maid and her employer to be mainstream then by all means feel free to feel that way

So all the FUNi dubs are mainstream then, and Nozomi have more dubs in their catalogue than FUNi? Well I never. To me mainstream means a TV deal broadcast on CN or Nick, or BBC, or whatever channel out there.

Sasami: Magical Girl Club 1+2, Rumbling Hearts, Save Me! Lollipop, My Santa, Big Windup!, and RIN ~Daughters of Mnemosyne~ are so mainstream it makes my eyes splode. ____ Anyway, this is a series I likely would have checked out. I bought Emma because in my eyes that series had more clout, though I would have loved to have payed more money and get proper release with a dub. Alice doesn't have that kind of clout with me, but it is the kind of thing I would otherwise buy. The same goes for Aria. As it is now these will just fall by the wayside. Can't say I am really angry anymore, that time has past. Imperturbable and ambivalent perhaps. |
