I've been an advocate of digital distribution for anime for a long time, but I never expected everyone to just start giving away whole series for free (including brand-new series in several cases). I was thinking of some modest fee. I wonder, are they really making enough off advertising to make it worthwhile? Or are they thinking that giving things away on the Internet boosts sales through marketing power alone? Pretty amazing, either way! If someone had said a couple of years ago that this was going to happen, I would have thought they were mad Razz.

More companies could do with offering fee-based high-quality downloads in addition to the free streams, though, imho. I was happy to pay for the Tower of Druaga episode downloads, but it was vaguely disappointing to know that fansubbed versions would have had higher video quality.

Edit: I see that the particular streams mentioned in this article are restricted to the US. Understandable since they're old series and the licenses won't allow for worldwide streaming, but I hope we'll see less of this as time goes on. Regional restrictions are annoying.

Wasn't ANN already streaming Izumo? Or does this just mean that they'll continue on from episode 5?

I've been wanting to watch Getbackers for a while now, I look forward to watching a couple of episodes when I have some free time. Awesome work ANN, this is awesome. Also, thank you Justin for making this happen, as well as anyone else involved.

It's a TV deal, not an internet deal. (The Anime Network [TAN] is ADVs VOD/SVOD service.) ADV bought the TV rights to a bunch of Enoki titles in mass so they can have new content for their network for "cheap". (The same way Gong bought the internet rights to a bunch of Enoki titles so that they could have a decent sized starting catalog for "cheap".)

I second that. I managed to find the first seven episodes used for 10 bucks, but I'd like to own the rest of it.

I think Utena is definitely at the top of many fan's license rescue list. I've been able to pick up a few random copies at FYE, ebay, and Music for a Song, but I still only have third of it. Would love for ADV/Sentai or Nozomi to give it a home. (Assuming CPM's DVD license has expired entirely, and they're not just sitting on it like their other shows.)

So, this means those titles will be on Anime Network on Demand? If so, I can't wait to start watching SuperGALS! and Gakuen Alice. ^^ Especially Gakuen Alice. When I heard it was coming out, I wanted to somehow preview or watch a few episodes before I decided on buying it, and I did hope that TAN would put it On Demand like they did Clannad and Princess Resurrection (which has now made me want to pick up both series once I can save up the money).

Please tell me I'm missing something here... The screen size is so tiny... Does ADV really expect to compete with other streaming services with a screen that small?

There's a very handy little button on the navigation bar that provides a fullscreen mode of very reasonable quality. I'd recommend using that.
