That's a good sell in this SOL anime industry.

Will FUNi's dub beat that in its first week? Probably not...

Maybe I shouldn't expect it so soon but it be very nice if Funimation did announce at Anime Expo a license of (and if we're extra lucky, a release date for) 1.11

This is Eva, and this is Japan. Hideako Anno could make an Eva about knitting and crocheting, and it would still do pretty well. Where the industry is really hurting is over here.

Nice to see that funi got the license. From what I heard the one of the big studios was going to get it. If funi can get a BD out in reasonable time I will have to get it.

Can only hope so as no one's going to be interested in 1.01 now when this so called definitive version has been released.

Couple questions from this admitted non-EVA fan who has not been following the news on it much.

1- What's different from 1.01 to 1.11
2- Is having seen the TV series necessary to enjoy these or are they a 'retelling'?

Thanks.

I guess that it's proof that a large fanbase will buy their favorite anime if they like it enough. Why's everyone so cynical about a dub they've never heard?

There is a BD release for 1.11, but not 1.01. The 1.01 DVD had horrible contrast levels, which has been fixed for 1.11. 1.11 has a few added scenes.

No, watching the series is not required. It will, however, let you see the differences between the two, and the inference that spoiler[it's also a sequel]

1. EVA 1.11 is a digital remaster version with new cuts added. Originally it was just announced for blu-ray but later a DVD version also was announced. Basically if the US license is for 1.01 only, then FUNi got taken to the cleaners. 1.11 was announced in Japan after FUNi announced the license for 1.0.

2. Not really. spoiler[It's a sequel actually imo ] but you don't need to know the original to watch it. It's more fun to know the original because then you can point out the differences in the current scenario.

So how long before I can buy my super ultra deluxe director's rererecut metal case limited edition bluray collectors pack of all the new movies and the original series etc? I've been waiting a long time for it. I'll pay just about any price you could name for it.

Why is everybody calling the new Eva films a sequel? The title for the movies is even "Rebuild of Evangelion" not Follow-up to Evangelion. I'm not trying to start any arguments here (though sometimes it's probably inevitable Rolling Eyes) but it seems to me that this is just a remake. It's easy to see the differences in the first movie as compared to the original series, and the second movie looks like it will veer off even further from the original story line -- but it doesn't look to me like they are trying to make a sequel, at least not in the sense of a continuation of the original story and more like they are giving the original a tuneup.

I can't wait for the second movie now that I've seen the first in HD Shocked. Now to find some cheap plane tickets lol.
