Not quite sure how I feel about that. Will it be set between the 2nd gig and the first movie? Or will it, like Solid State Society, be set afterward? I'm not sure they could make the first option work at this point. Kamiyama Kenji is, presumably, "tied up" with making those Eden of the East movies mentioned earlier in the article. That guy is fast becoming one of my favorite anime directors!

Yes, please! C'mon, Kamiyama, get those Eden of the East movies out of the way! I desire another pretty, intelligent cop show to salivate upon! Kinda makes me wonder where they'd put a third season, though. There's no way it'd be between either of the existing seasons, since the time between SAC and 2nd GIG was basically spoiler[Section 9 sitting around waiting for the Prime Minister to like them again], and a series set between 2nd GIG and SSS would just be 26 episodes of spoiler[a mopey Batou missing his Major], which would be needlessly depressing. They'd probably just continue the story after SSS, but all of the main characters have changed so much since the initial TV series that it'd almost be a different show entirely, one more akin to the original Oshii films than what's been presented thus far. |

I don't care if it's dominated by Mokoto surfing the net for old Saturday Night Live episodes, a 3rd Season of Ghost In The Shell would be awesome! Let's hope it happens in 2010!

Well, I was all set to quote the GITS:SAC part of the article, but it seems two other posters have already done that.
While all of it is good news(Oblivion Island has me very curious), The GITS part was by far the best news of all. Patience...

If so, I would be interested. I bought the first TV season based on the movie, and sold it the day I finished it. I wasn't interested in a cop buddy show with comic robots, and that's all it was basically. The Laughing Man arc was the only partially redeeming part of it. The movies are far more engaging and visually attractive, and I would love a series in the same flavor. |

I don't know much about the Kerberos saga, but isn't Jin-Roh an adaptation of The Red Spectacles, itself a live-action film? |

Well, it'd still be a cop buddy show with comic robots because that's what Kamiyama's version of the GitS universe is - personally I like it because I think it's more reminiscent of Masamune Shirow's work, whereas the movies (which I didn't like) were Oshii through and through. I'm just saying that given the switch in mood that took place during SSS, it's likely that any new season set after that would be darker (both spiritually and visually) and far more serious, like 2nd GIG was to the first season, even. |

Which is what I get for posting too fast and not checking my spelling... thanks, I'm going back to fix that.
Yeah, 2nd Gig is superior to the 1st, in my not-so-humble opinion precisely because it is darker; if the first season was a cop show, the second was more of a political thriller. It does mirror Shirow's manga closely (though without the unnecessary fanservice, and with better characterization) And the tachikomas, your mileage probably varies. I loved them. |

Oh, me too - I was just quoting pparker when I said 'comic robots', and I meant absolutely no offense to our cuddly little spider tank friends
Incidentally, I was so glad they spoiler[came back] for SSS, because now we'll have tachikomas in anything that comes after that, spoiler[at least until they all kill themselves again]. |
