Though I can't make to there, I have the DVD of Metropolis. One of the best movies I ever saw. As with Tezuka's Star System and character motifs, Kenichi is essentially Astro Boy. That is, the Metropolis manga came first and Kenichi's character motif seems to have been transferred to Astro.

I missed the opportunity to see this when it was shown as a special event at the Barbican.
It's for the best though. This film is dearer to my heart than any other piece of entertainment I have seen, and single-handedly made me an anime fan. If in a cinema, it wouldn't be very becoming of me to succumb to the emotions it manages to evoke.
