WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS!?!?!?!?!

They're teasing poor souls like me!!!

What good are clips if they are spread apart from each other?!

Ohhh! I'm in agony...

(sigh) It's a type of service to fans, I guess... But I'm still gonna wait for the movie in it's entirety!!!

Go Funi!!!

Aw, I thought this was going to be the first 27 minutes, not all the clips they're released so far. Saw some of the first series and wasn't impressed but the shiny art is drawing me in this time....

Well, tonight I'll be watching more than twenty-seven minutes. After watching the first eight minutes, I decided to get the movie.

I, uh, probably won't be watching the dub, though. Not that I don't appreciate the effort, but I guess Evangelion is cursed to never have a great dub.

It all looks good to me, dub included. Can't wait to own this title in my library.

That's funny. I normally never watch dubs and I thought the dub for the movie was great. Much, much better than the ADV dub, at least.

Yeah... I'm still not fond of Spike Spencer, but this is such a gigantic improvement on the old ADV and Manga dubs that it's hard to complain. This is the first Eva dub I consider watchable.

Though we won't really see what dramatic heavy lifting this cast is capable of until later movies, methinks.

I will admit, Spencer's Shinji has improved marginally, but it's still not really the right voice for the character.

I'm not looking forward to Tiffany Grant returning to her role as Asuka in the next movie, if she does. I used to love her Asuka, but I think less of it with every repeated listening.

It'll be interesting to see who they choose to be Mari.

Wow, it really is shot-for-shot the same!

It sounds like Mr. Spencer is trying to sound more close to the Japanese this time- he's put on a bit of a falsetto and sounds super meek and soft-spoken, instead of the "whiny Shinji" from the ADV dub. It's quite an improvement, but... he's still just a rather awkward fit for Shinji; I don't think it sounds right for the character.

I'm quickly starting to like the dub's new Rei, though. Really pretty.

On a not-dub-related note, I noticed that the dialog in this movie is more self-conscious and expositiony. Obviously they don't have the time to be leisurely with the world-building, but it hurts the realism a little bit to have Shinji standing around by himself going "gee it looks like all the facilities in this city are shut down I'd better go to a shelter to avoid something doomy happening to me!" Maybe it's just the differences between translations and it's actually exactly the same, but it feels weird.

It's the translation/dub rewrite license. The Japanese dialogue is so identical I was mouthing along with it the first time I saw it.

I'm intrigued.

I don't recall Misato slapping herself in the original series (but please correct me if I'm wrong). Shamshel also didn't disintegrate in the show.

These differences could very well be insignificant in the long run, but I can't help but wonder if they foreshadow something.

A compelling possibility. But FWIW, why on earth did Anno/Studio Khara take out what IMHO was a very cool visual from the 1st episode, where the Angel catches a missile in one hand and crushes it like an aluminum can? That would've looked awesome with the "new coat of paint." But it's a very very minor nitpick on my part...I'm seriously liking what i've seen in this not-quite half-hour.

As well as what i've _heard._ It's the same orchestral score we remember from the series, but they've really punched it up. The old battle music really gets some extra oomph from the ominous Latin(?) chorale in the background. And I honestly got chills down the spine hearing the majestic "all clear" sequence as Tokyo-3 resets to non-combat configuration.

Total agreement with the notable improvement in Spike Spencer's Shinji circa the Rebuilds. Less whiny = good x 1000. Which makes his "I mustn't run away" mantra sound more resonant and sincere.

Brina Palencia's Rei is sounding pretty sweet too. Okay, sweet in a "Yuki Nagato?...Her voice is but an emulation of my own, albeit a more than adequately capable one" sort of way.

I just hope Redbox carries this come Tuesday!

I've held out on buying this movie because I'm assuming there will be a 1.11 release -- can anyone confirm this?

Eh, I don't really care for Palencia's Rei. It sounds too urgent, too intentional. Rei should sound more distant and wistful. Palencia sounds like she's in a hurry.

I loved Justin Cook as Touji, though. It's a perfect fit, since Touji is essentially Yusuke Uremeshi without the spiritual powers.

Gack! FUNI's dub has immortalized the awful catchphrase "I know, right?"!

Apart from that, I like most of what I hear. Spike works better with the breathy restraint he's using here. John Swasey's Gendo is growing on me, but I'll throw my hat in with those who really wanted Tristan McAvery back. (He was, really, the only cast member I felt really HAD to return, even as I knew that was impossible.) The only voice I've heard that's really making me wince is Kensuke's.
