Might as well be never. Cameron's been promising this for years but he always manages to find another project. Course he claims to be waiting on the technology but I don't care about that. His movies are nothing but spectacle now and one of the reasons I don't care to see Avatar. So even if it does come out, I don't know if I'll see it.

I've read part of the manga but I kinda gave up on it. The first part I had trouble finding the volumes and 2nd half I liked but I gave up because it seemed to throw too much at me. I would like to see the anime and was surprised to know ADV released it. I thought I heard the anime license was held up because of Cameron was going to make the movie. Is the anime hard to find? Does it have a dub?

I don't know, I personally want to see expressly because Cameron does spectacle so well, and I can only imagine how mind-blowing the Motorball scenes would be. I'm doubtful we'll ever see it, too, but if it does come out, I'll definitely check it out.

It was out of print for a loooong time, but it's available again now. Right Stuf has it for sale here. It does indeed have a dub, including Amanda Winn-Lee as Gally/Alita.

Not particularly hard, and yes, it does have a dub. I wouldn't recommend it though, since it's essentially just the first two volumes of the manga crammed into two halfhour episodes, and not really good.

"not really good"? are you kidding me? it's considered one of the best ova's ever in anime. even if you disagree with that, at least you have to admit it's one of the classic ova's of the 90's and one every anime fan should see. you couldn't be more wrong. i saw it and loved it btw.

Eh, maybe it's just because I read the manga (which I love dearly) first and only saw the anime a few years ago, but I honestly don't consider it to be anything special. Certainly not something I'd recommend over the manga.

oh your one of those types. the types that read books. yuck Smile

a lot of readers say things aren't as good cause the movie/anime/tv show or whatever is inferior to the book. isn't that true like 99% of the time though. lord of the rings sucks compared to the books, but they are great movies nonetheless. i think the same applies to battle angel. it's a classic anime.

Eh? It's not in any way a bad OVA, but I certainly wouldn't list it as a 'best ever'.

What are you talking about? The "projects" you're talking about is a single film - Avatar (his only film in 12 years). And that only took so long because he had to INVENT the 3D technology he was shooting the movie, and eventually Battle Angel, with.

EDIT: And @maxxjulie, I disagree. The LoTR movies were a hundred times better than the books. Peter Jackson removed all of the excess material (all that Tom Bombadil nonsense), and switched things up to make the story a lot more invigorating. The books were also written in Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe, and were unnecessarily hard to read.

The average rating here is about a 7, and that sounds about right to me. Granted, I haven't watched it in, sheesh, like 12 years, but from what I remember it's well-directed and beautifully animated, but it runs through so much story so quickly that it feels a little unsatisfying on the whole. Not to sound like "that guy," but the manga really is better.

I've seen it a bit more recently and its just as you said. I love the manga and i have every volume released in the US so far. Last order is an amazing storyline even with a few sub arcs being less so, they are still entertaining. I hope he can get as far as Dusty Nova in the storyline, he's an awesome antagonist.

I always loved the motorball sequences of the manga & OVA, but i'm a bit afraid it will get toned down on the violence/gore though...

Yeah, that OVA is good. But it stops just before the manga really takes off and gets super-good. So you don't really get a good feel for the incredible scope of this series just from watching the short anime adaptation.

This is in my top 3 manga of all time. Everyone who likes any kind of sci-fi and intense, beautifully drawn action scenes needs to read it.

Dude, Tom Bombadil is awesome Sad I want to be able to walk through the rain and stay dry too..

On topic: I think the 3D technology used in Avatar would work pretty well on the generally strange looking people in Battle Angel.

Is there anyone in Hollywood badass enough to portray Jashugan?
