I hate this crap. I'm not screaming thought police or anything, I just don't like the idea of the possibility of my artwork in the future being misinterpreted as something it isn't, and it even having some sort of human right that somehow outweighs my freedom of expression.
It just feels wrong. 5 bucks says it was Naruto doujinshi. |

I wonder what will come of this. Honestly, there are more important things to do than deal with the fake stuff, especially when it isn't actually hurting anyone. I wouldn't doubt if we see the site close soon, though, and if a case is actually started it probably won't get that far.
But...Yay for a scanlation site being taken off Google? |

Probably nothing; it really depends on the content (though I've heard some people upset about doujin being scanned because the artists make even less than the original, and foreigners collecting doujin is actually pretty common and easy to do). From the news post, I can't even tell if it's a loli/shota site or if it's a site with various series and contains a few objectionable pics. Really, just take my comment in jest; it wasn't meant to be all that serious

And Google removed Baka's manga site, the best manga info resource on the net, from its Adsense program. Yeah, those online encyclopedias are dangerous.
Yet another reason to switch to Clusty.com, which censors nothing, and doesn't keep records on anything. If Google is only giving you the search results it wants to, then it's not worth anything as a search engine. |

As a foreign collector, I can assure you that its not easy to do, especially when most of the DJs are printed in limited print runs and you can only get them in the secondhand market (no extra profit to the original artists!). For those curious, clicking on the source link will eventually provide the site being censored. Looks like loli to me. |

Just want to get misconceptions out of the way before they sprout out. There isn't really much profit to be made in doujinshi, and it's this way to so that they can stay on the legal side of the law/loophole they work through. Artist produce them and can't really ask for much more outside of the cost of printing (think around 600 yen per copy). For this I mean doujinshi using licenses, not original comics that are self published. Even then doujinshi are printed in extremely limited runs, then sold at a conventions and through circle's websites. Once all the doujinshi that were printed are sold, the artist is done. It's the people reselling doujinshi that make profit off if by selling/auctioning them for way more than what they're worth. Scanlated doujinshi bring a product that's off the market to an audience outside of Japan that otherwise can't access them. If anything, they actual create new interest in artist/circles, and are seen by some doujinshi collectors as a way to shop for new doujinshi/artist they'd like to collect. It's common for readers to find a doujinshi they like via scanlations, then go hunting for it on yahoo.jp auctions to add to their own collection. Nothing's being lost here. |

It doesn't surprise me that it might be difficult; I was just noting what others have argued, or reasoned why they might not scanlate. I should also clarify that it's easier to find doujinshi as a whole, rather than a specific one. Just going to Ebay and searching for Hetalia in books brings up loads. However, looking for a book in particular (or one from a lesser known series) will no doubt be difficult. I'm also aware that the artists rarely make much money, if any at all; some argued that as the reason, though I can see how it may or may not apply depending on the person whose using the scanlation. EDIT: Oh, yes, and I do wonder how that scanlation group is doing with Google. I assume that they aren't actually defending the legalities of scanlations, but more or less trying not be caught in the law with what's available on their website. While they might be able to get out under the Constitution, it's not going to be a fun or cheap battle, and it makes them vulnerable for another company to sue for copyright infringement. |

The only legal problems I see in the future for the group is defending themselves against charges for posting "child pornography" on the internet, which is questionable to begin with. Whoever the original license holder is for whatever character was in the doujinshi is very much likely NOT about to take legal action. To do so would be to take legal action against the original doujinshi artist. Anime companies and manga-ka of real, licensed work thrive on doujinshi - it's this weird cycle that feeds on each other there via creating interest for products and creating future artist. The original artist of the doujinshi has very little in terms of rights in this case, if they have any at all. Even if they did, you really think some penniless artist in Japan has the money to go to international court over some foreigners posting scans of their fanbook on the net? |

Its all BS, when will people realize that DRAWINGS ARE NOT REAL.
There is no harm being done to any "real" person, besides the whole lolicon thing is such a gray area that there is absolutely no way to determine what an 18 year old character is suppose to look like. |
