It's weird that they edited the original script for this new box set. But the question is why? would understand if it was for a TV broadcast but it isn't?
This is definately gonna give dub bashers new ammo on how dubs suck and sub is better. |

This set had Goku's attack on Red Ribbon headquarters, right? I loved that part.
Yeah, some of the rewrites are a little troubling, especially given a DVD release. The overall English dub for Dragon Ball is decent, though.. You still have to suffer through Tiffany Vollmer's Bulma, though. And I would say Mike McFarland's Roshi is like every other English voice he's received. It sounds a generic "old man character" with very little hint of its own personality. But some other voices are pretty good, like Kent Williams' Tao Pai Pai or Chuck Huber's Tsurusennin. And the narration by Brice Armstrong creates a storybook, almost epic-like feel to it. Stephanie Naldony's Son Goku is better than her Gohan in DBZ, but I can't say it has the same charm and warmth as Masako Nozawa's. I've been debating with myself over purchasing these latest DB sets or wait for a Dragon Box release, should that ever happen. |

Taopaipai returns earlier than that at the next tournament (which will be in "Season Five"), complete with the cyborg upgrades shown later in DBZ. His appearance there helps to close a chapter in Tien's story that starts in the set reviewed here.
Although the other names may be more commonly-accepted among Western fans, I believe Funimation uses "Kuririn", "Karin", "Lunch", and so on for the Japanese version's subtitles to be as accurate as possible with the translations. Viz's manga translation also uses those names. I don't really blame them, either. If Chaozu is yelling "Ten-san!", the subtitle shouldn't read "Tien!" when he clearly isn't saying that. I have no problem with the names used in the English dub, but the sub should use the original names. |

DB is kiddie-oriented? I guess that means DBZ is real mature
Instead of kiddie-oriented, just say "light and fun", which is kind of like the same thing except without the putdown. |

Which are intact in the subtitles. So how does that make it "not uncut?" (And actually give a little bit of effort towards elaborating this time if you choose to respond.) |
