Am I missing a link or is it an article and not a lecture on the Gainax site?

"The first lecture is a text transcript of..."

So yeah, no missing link. I doubt these will ever get translated, but I bet they're pretty cool.

As the article says, the first lecture is a text transcript. The second lecture, also by Tsurumaki, is also in text form.

Thank you. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a video link somewhere in the transcript.

Abstract:

"Smoke pot, do pantyshots, go to the bank to cash your checks. Smoke some more pot."

I love these guys.

I skimmed through the text page, I recognized right away that he's teaching basic storyboarding. He's showing which camera angle works and which doesn't.

Basically, he's teaching the same things taught in film schools in other countries. I heard that animation education in Japan is not strong as western counterparts and I'm glad that people like Kazuya Tsurumaki is doing something about it. Besides, how many fans will listen to film-making lecture from some unknown director even though both are the same?

A cool idea, for those who need to know in japan.

If you are outside of japan, there are a good few books you can buy on story boarding that will help. You might also want to check out Toon Boom's Storyboard Pro software, which will let you try your hand at it.

There should be a free demo of it available online.
