I thought I recognised that voice, it's Mamoru Miyano. Hmm looks somewhat interesting. What is that he yells at the beginning of the third trailer and the end of the second?

This appears to be a Super Robot show, so I'm willing to guess it's an attack name, the mech's name, or a battle cry. I just keep hearing it as "Apple Borza" which I am sure is wrong. Also I am finding the mech itself a little off putting looking, just a bit creepy and spindly.

The character designs remind me somewhat of the Ouran High School actually. Yoshiyuki Ito, the character designer. did work on Ouran like Takuya Igarashi the director... though as a key animator and assistant animation director not character designer so maybe I'm reading too much into it and seeing things.

I wonder if this anime will be the next "Code Geass" in terms of aiming both male and female otaku fanbases and their sub-fanbases.

Code Geass was a messy mish-mash of sub-genres. As such, it was destined to be either terrible, or completely amazing. Thankfully, it was the latter, but it's not something that anyone can pull off.

Looks like a sound crew! Other than it not... just working out(Shangri-La), Star Driver might be the series for me this season.

Good mecha stories and BONES always get along.

As for it becoming the next Code Geass? I don't think so... BONES is like IG, they'll do things their own way, but not before calculating the odds and the factors that'll make it succeed at SOMETHING!

"better safe than sorry", is the motto for everyone nowadays...

Sunrise can, literally, afford a disaster or two.

If this series does VERY well, here's hopin' Bandai will license and dub a great one using Bang! Zoom!

I think it's like a summoning cry since the robot's name is "Tauburn."

My my, that's quite a bit of fanservice for Bones in these trailers.

Star Driver might be derivative in terms of the number of preexisting elements involved in a single show but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You could say it's all about execution and there's still a lot of room for creativity in that area. Still, it definitely won't be for everyone. Different strokes for different folks and so on and so forth.

In particular, I don't know if it's too old-school for most viewers but this series seems to have a lot more in common with Revolutionary Girl Utena than anything else mentioned in this topic so far.

I would say you're making two questionable assumptions here.

One, neither Bones nor Production I.G. are somehow immune to making shows with flaws both large and small.

Two, I'm sure that Sunrise doesn't consider Code Geass a "disaster" or "unsafe" by any definition of the term.

And, in the end, I just don't think it's worth preemptively judging something like this before watching it.

I couldn't agree more. I was completely feeling the Utena vibes.

Did anyone else get Eureka Seven vibes from the first trailer?

The robot and the pilot sort of resemble spoiler[The Nirvash in its final form, and Renton piloting it, especially the latter.] The girl at the end also reminded me of Eureka...or maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me. I know the similarities are pretty much only in asthetics, but I would like to see another anime similar to Eureka Seven.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's a summoning cry as well. I hear it as "Apropozu" which I guess could be "Apropos" without the exaggeration and engrish, not that it's easy to make out with the bombast.

Bones mecha shows have been great for me so I can't wait.

I hope this is as "big" as it looks in the trailers.

You know that's probably true, I think there's more fanservice in these trailers than most of Bones shows put together lol.

Ryvius, I can see that, when they showed the first trailer my initial thought was that it's also got the smoothness of the way the robots are moving and the striking colors of E7/Xam'd especially in those robot/sky shots even the special effects color work with a little Gurren/Gunbuster 2 flair and in the scale.

Can't wait to see what this ends up like.

Which is not surprising, given that Star Driver is written by the same guy who wrote Utena. (Enokido Youji, how underrated you are.)

Anyway, the trailers look promising (GINGA BISHOUNEN!! Very Happy), although I'm not crazy about the character designs... but they're not bad either. I'm looking forward to this show.

Uh oh looks like the red haired dude is girl shy. Check out his omg please don't kiss me! pose in the 2nd trailer. Not that that is much of a surprise. I am still looking forward to the series. But some of the robot designs gave me the impression this was going to be a bit quirkier than youre standard shounen fair. Heres hoping it surprises me yet Smile

To answer our questions, he's been yelling "Apprivoiser" which my sources tell me is French for "to tame."
