Can anyone verify that this guy's work influenced The Simpsons? 'Cus that's what wikipedia claims.

It's damn hard not to think it did... The basic setup is completely the same: Dependable, level headed mother Extremely boneheaded father The youngest daughter smart like her mother The eldest son, dumb like his dad (but not THAT dumb). There's the bumbling local policeman character and townspeople as recurring side characters. So even if it wasn't a direct influence, considering it was circa 1960 gag manga in Japan it could very well have at least contributed to the idea. |

Oh, I'd say the Simpsons have more Flinstones' than Akatsuka's influence...

Well Tansai Bakabon is a lot more similar to the Simpsons than the Flintstones is. The Flintstones is an animated version of a "strong father" family sitcom which all started from the Honeymooners and paved the way for all primetime animation that ever came afterwards, but as for the show itself, I don't think it's that similar. The Simpsons and Tensai Bakabon are both more zany and gag based and more at home being a cartoon. |
