Akira and Shiki are the two major BL players, yet they really didn't have that much going for them. Would have liked to have seen more BL action, or is that too much to hope for. Still, a sequal should be in the works, and if it is, I wish they would lighten up the picture. Sometimes it was so dark, all I could see was shadows.

For those who are thinking of watching this episode, look at this:

I got this comparison image from the website of a group which fansubbed this series. It shows just how much of episode twelve is reused animation. It's like they ran almost completely out of budget, something you wouldn't really expect in this day and age of careful penny pinching and cost-counting.

I'm disappointed. I definitely noticed all the reused animation. I guess if your anime production budget is up, it's up. It's still a bummer. More importantly, I hate having to look at buildings when a supposed fight scene is going on - instead of the fight scene. But I guess that might be because of no funds for animating the fight scenes. Sad

Did the re-use of the animation make the picture so dark, or do you think it was "creative" selection. It was really difficult to see it so much of the time.

I'm not expert, but reusing animation will not make the picture darker. It was likely a stylistic choice, to make the series seem grim and gloomy. Yeah, there were a few scenes that were simply too darkened for my taste, although I could always - just - make everything out.

And the pictures of sky and buildings when the fight scenes were being played annoyed me too.

It's a bummer that ANN had to have this show this poor as one of the first series to simulcast. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that no-one would trust them with a better title until they proved themselves (that ANN could make it work), but of course I am not privy to the actual details.
