They're coming to my neighborhood! Most excellent! I must make plans to go see it. I've heard good things about this movie.

If there was any justice in the world Summer Wars would win the Oscar for best animated film this year..I can't wait to own the blu-ray.

Baaaaah!!! My friends and I live barely half hour from D.C. but because there was no showings for it in the area, we took a trip up to New York last week. Because of the way things fell, it consisted of a arriving at New York at 550am, a 1040am movie time, a lot of snow and slush, pre-New Years madness, and a awfully smelly bus ride at the back of a Chinese bus.

But it made only made the movie that much more awesome.

YES! It's showing in Austin! Actually they're showing the dubbed version Jan 7-13 and the subbed version Jan 10-12 as well. I am definitely going to see this. I might even have to try to see both versions...

I saw it in New York last week and thought it was a good movie, although implausible in spots. I usually watch anime in Japanese with English subtitles, but this had a good English dub.

It should slightly improve appreciation of it to read through the rules to Koi Koi first, although that site doesn't support doubling.

I just got back from seeing it at the Angelika Theater in Dallas, and I can now report that Summer Wars has promoted itself to the top of my acquisition list. It contains a fair amount of comedy mixed with some drama, heartbreak and action, and it was a lot of fun. There was a pretty good round of applause when it finished. As a bonus some of the cast and production crew were present and had a Q & A after the movie. That was interesting. Turnout wasn't too bad - I would say there were about 50 people in the theater, ages from single digits to greybeards. Don't know how many more there might have been if we hadn't had another ice storm this morning.

It was a pretty good time. I didn't catch the names of all the cast members present, but Brina Palencia was there as well as Anastasia Munoz and Mike McFarland, who played host and emcee. He mentioned that the first pressing will have goodies in it, like art cards and stuff.
