I love Kotobukiya's Bishoujo line, although I think it's strange they're doing a Jean Grey figure, since they did a Phoenix figure already. Wish I could've seen more pics of that line; I thought Electra was going to be revealed, and maybe some DC women. Undecided about the Jean Grey figure, but I'll pick up the Sue Storm one.

I don't collect figurines (other than little gashapon or small figures that I can actually fit on my crowded shelf), but I want that Dark Magician Girl! She's always been my favorite monster, and overall one of my favorite characters of Yu-Gi-Oh!, and the figure looks really nice. ^^

That SoC Daltanious does look awesome... But there's no way I'm going to pay $300 for that. I was lucky enough to get my SoC Walker Gallia at a great price a few years back.

Er.. I don't know where your expectations are coming from but Toy Fair is a North American event. Max Factory and Good Smile Company do not display there themselves - only items that are being imported by a US company. The Marvel bishojo statues ARE Koto. He says at the very top of the column that he (and we) were concerned that there wouldn't be enough column-relevant content at the show to even warrant going. Luckily we got about 36 items out of it, so not bad. |

Hi, guys, just posting to confirm that the Good Smile behemoth was not present and that this is the entire Toy Fair report.
Keep in mind that Toy Fair's emphasis is by no means Japanese otaku stuff. Toy Fair is concerned with toys for kids, first and foremost. Toys for nerds are in the specialty section of the show, under "action figures" (yes, statues too). Like I said, out of many hundreds of booths, there were perhaps five total with our kind of thing on display. Bandai America's real booth, with Ben 10 and so on, took up at least three or four times the space of the tiny little place I got all those pictures of things I like from. Even Kotobukiya had far more (amazing) stuff from superheroes and Star Wars than anime. Anime and Japanese properties in general were along for the ride, not a main attraction. Again, remember the sheer size of Toy Fair, and that even though it looks like there was a lot here, the anime stuff on the floor was probably less than a fraction of a percent of all the toys on display. |

There was several more from both DC and Marvel that didn't make it into these pictures. Not everything is new, but they had a presence. Those new Play Arts Kai Street Fighter figures actually debuted at the show. I'm guessing they'll be another US exclusive (initially) like the Bleach series (and Halo?). BTW, Shocker Toys is planning to get into anime figures and were promoting it by displaying posters of random anime characters from random anime. They all say "pending approval" next to them which is a pretty standard Geoff Becket business tactic: announce first - license later. I'll be amazed if they ever get made. Emerje |

Cool, thanks Emerje for the link. I was hoping for some new DC plans, but I guess they just had some finished products that I had already known about.
I wonder why Sue Storm looks so lopsided. The Ms. Marvel looks great, as does Catwoman and Wonder Woman. Jean Grey looks worse in these pictures and I'm really not a fan of her Jim Lee orange and blue outfit (so clunky; hate the shoulderpads). Really don't like the Supergirl pose, and pretty meh about Black Cat, so I'll probably pass on those, too. I wish they would hurry up and announce Storm, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn plans.

With those they don't really get licensed to go anywhere else, they're either bought/imported by comic/novelty stores through distributors like Diamond or you can try importing them over the internet with sites like AmiAmi or Benippon. That being said those Yu-Gi-Oh chibis were released in two sets and they're still on sale on AmiAmi, although I know the first one sold out pretty quick on other sites (doesn't help that the sculptor also did all the One Coins for Nitro+ CHiRAL). The Dark Magician Girl figurine is on pre-order for a release in March. |

Well, this certainly explains my expectations. I could have swore I just saw pictures from this event from "GSC", but now that they could have been from another company, it's making sense. My apologies for the confusion. With all these fairs, it's hard to keep track anymore. 
Heh... those don't count. Just kidding. Hit the Koto page and it seems to make more goods for the US than it does for Japan with all its superhero/movie figures, so the pics are pretty on par with what to expect at comic shop shelves in 2011.
I did read that, and I have to admit I was a bit confused (again). Does this TF not include businesses which import, such as AAA Anime? Obviously, these types of fairs are closed to us who don't have a back pocket filled with press passes, so we're pretty ignorant of them. Well, I am anyway.
This is rather an interesting point, because I've been seeing these figures show up at conventions I wouldn't consider a Japanese event. TF2011 would be one of them. I state this because I don't believe figures are an "otaku" thing anymore. It seems the purchase crowds are growing and it's probably due to the fact these figures aren't just designed to be sexy anymore. 2010 seems to be the turning year to return back to the days of sculptures not purposely designed so boys can count the stripes on the pantsu. It's a good time to be a collector again (I was getting worried the only figures we'd see are Fate in her swimsuit, as if the first 40 designs weren't enough).
"Our kind of thing"? I laughed. I'm sure your article did quite a bit to stir up those who do enjoy the Koto statues (don't call them figures, you'll die). Hey, a quick question: Was FUNimation's Mallow line there? You know, because we were told they have a contract to produce toys from this line and I've yet to see any. The bold wasn't really directed at you, Dave, but more for Lance another FUNi employees who peruse this forum.
