Darn. I had my hopes. Oh well, the safety of the Japanese people is more important anyway. Besides, I don't think anyone over there is in the mood for a show spoiler[where middle school girls die horrible deaths.]

Delays are okay, considering the situation over there. Just hope they don't cancel the series, for scheduling reasons with the upcoming spring anime.

Maybe I'll just take a couple weeks of nice boats as an indication that I should buy this show when it's inevitably licensed. Got to pump some money back into the Japanese economy somehow.

Maybe there's something about episode 11 that might be considered inappropriate/insensitive given the recent tragedy, like the "wave" in last week's episode of "Onii-chan no koto". Considering the direction the series was taking: SPOILERspoiler[ it might have been something related to the upcoming Walpurgis Night and the destruction of Madoka's hometown (like in the dream in the first episode and episode 10), being likened to the earthquake.]

Considering last week's episode showed a character spoiler[lying dead and half-submerged in a flooded ruins ] this is not entirely surprising.

It'll turn up eventually, even if it has to be webcast like the last three episodes of Bakemonogatari.

Maybe they'll replace it in the schedules with some calming scenic views.
I think the Fjords are nice.

I ordered the first three Blu-ray volumes earlier today (hmmm... it's now "tomorrow", so I actually ordered it "yesterday"... or whatever ;p ). Five of the six discs are listed on Amazon. I'll order the other three once #6 comes up for sale.

Argh. I was hoping that the broadcast would manage to squeak on by... but considering how the late-March blu-ray release was delayed, I guess the outcome was pretty much sealed. And with a show that's not exactly the "healing" type of anime, the respect to withhold its broadcast is perfectly understandable. Just don't cancel the show or prevent it from airing, which would effectively have the whole audience wait months for a two-episode conclusion.

Whenever I hear of suspensions for indefinite periods of time, I always assume the worst, like months. Is there a Japanese precedent for such a delay of multiple shows at the same time in recent memory? And if so, how long did it take for shows to get back on schedule? The last time I remember delays in programming happening like this was around 9/11 and/or the invasion of Iraq, and I think the delays happened for just a week. How long might it take to get back on track over there, I wonder...

Well, fudge. Oh well... maybe one of the stations will still air it. Or I'll just find and watch a stream rip.

Still, this was expected. Walprugis Night comes complete with giant earthquake, floods and more destruction. Not really the time to air it... I guess.

Expanding on Animerican14's 9/11 delay in programming note:

After 9/11 Toonami's airing of First Gundam got cut off and it never returned. Guns, violence, war, no good!

I don't know if this counts but Clamp's X was going into quite a dark place (Earthquakes in it lining up with the Kanto quake of 95, real murders being similar to killings in the manga, so on) and the publisher squabbled with CLAMP about it and it ended in its removal from serialization. X has been on hiatus ever since.
(8 years now? There was vol 18.5 somewhere in there)

Not surprised at all, some the events of the previous episodes were eerily similar to the earthquake tragedy. This option is definately better than airing an edited episode.

The article seems to say that only 3 stations that normally air it are opting not to - this seems to suggest that there are other stations which will air it as scheduled? Or are these the only ones that air it?

I'm really disappointed but I suppose it had to be done. I hope there's not too much of a delay.

Madoka Magica series script supervisor Gen Urobuchi apologized to everyone waiting to see the anime, but said that he is relieved for the delay. He explained that the anime studio SHAFT would work to the last minute on every episode — just hours before the first airing of each episode on Thursday evening (early Friday morning) in the Kanasai area on MBS.
Shaft. And here I thought you had improved your timing. Laughing
Oh, well, Madoka aside I want my Kore wa Zombie desu ne, Gosick, and Frenchie of the week.
