Hmmm, not to sound like an asshole but I don't see this as a good thing. Sure is cool that they're opening the site to more people but this might also spawn a bunch of "those kind" of anime fans coming there.
Kinda liked Pixiv the way it was, more restricted to those that can't read Japanese.

Sorry if I sound mean thats just how I view this.

I honestly have no idea what "kind" you're referring to.

But it's easy to assume it's some group that you think of yourself as superior to, judging by what you wrote.

My somewhat small familiarity with Pixiv is that it's just an image gallery with nothing particularly special about it.

Basically, I think Jrittmayer believes that western fans showing up on Pixiv will turn it into another DeviantArt.

I've also found that most folks who love Pixiv seem to be under the impression that everyone on Pixiv is an awesome artist and everyone on dA (or whatever) is a hack.

YMMV, but I'm guessing I'm pretty close.

I don't really get this. I don't understand a lick of Japanese, but I have virtually no problem finding art and figuring out which tags to click for favorite pairings. Signing up was also a cinch.

Also, "those kind" of anime fans exist in non-english speaking countries as well. I've had to shift through a sea of rough sketches and other types of art I didn't find appealing before I saw something I liked.

because there aren't already a ton of extensions for Firefox and Chrome that allow you to translate the site and access features easily anyway?

take a look at any anime-related F Yeah blog on Tumblr. I assure you "those kind" already know about Pixiv.

Well, sort of, I use both DA and Pixiv and I like both for what they are, that is more or less art-sharing sites but one for mainly westerners and one for mainly well, Japanese.
Now I don't want you to get the impression that I think anything non-japan is evil and everything from Japan is awesome, because I do not think so at all. Both have the good and bad, and I respect aspiring artists from both, its just that I liked seeing the differences in style and such between the two.

I didn't really mean to offend anyone, just wanted to say that making it more accessible makes it easier for well, not so desirable fans. And by that I mean the types you see posting on 4chan or MAL or whatever "omg naruto is so gay, deadman wonderland is beast" or even worse the "omg so kawii desu <3333333!!~~" ones.
Not saying they couldn't get on before but TBH I have serious doubts about the intelligence of those types of people.

Point understood.

As well, on pixiv's defense (no I'm in no way representing pixiv or whatsoever), pixiv has a much stricter code of conducts and rules when it comes to submission (for example, art tracing WITHOUT a specifications using tags or explaination; or arts that are plagarized will be shunned or deleted on spot when reported). So there is no need to worry about that. There is a report button there for a reason, so you can use it.

As for immature comments, these type of comments exist even amongst the Japanese community as well, however the Japanese don't take it seriously as long as there are no insults flying around the place.

Overall, I don't see anything wrong with pixiv trying to go International (they aren't just doing English version of it, but as many languages as they can fit), so feel free to contribute some articles or submit some arts if you can draw, they will be happy to see that instead of arguing that goes no where.

However DA has much, much stricter rules on the type of content allowed. See here and here.

Pixiv also provides a regular blogging feature for users at http://blog.pixiv.net/ -> http://pixiv.cc/<user> which I quite like

"Submissions of a non- photographic nature which clearly depict a minor, fictional character or otherwise, either nude or in a sexually driven manner will be removed and deleted without notice as they come to the attention of the staff."

Hahaha, yeah, that'd disqualify a lot of Pixiv stuff! Laughing

Call it 'elitist' or whatever you feel, but I kind of agree with it being a bad thing. Pixiv was bad enough a year ago when American/Western artists started uploading their stuff, now this is just encouraging more people to do it. I'd rather not wade through a bunch of poor drawings to find the good stuff. Yes, I'm aware that's a generalization, but it's an accurate one in my years on the internet. I'm specifically referring to animation-related stuff, by the way.

Now NicoVid is doing the same thing. Gone are the days of finding awesome MAD videos, now it'll be populated by a sea of poorly made DBZ/Naruto/Bleach AMVS set to Linkin Park or Evanescence. Won't beat around the bush: I went to those sites for Japanese-made stuff specifically because I found them to be much higher quality than Western done stuff 99% of the time.

Snide personal attacks are a sign someone has no real point to make, but thanks for your input.

Most of the better AMVs are from western origin
you shouldn´t judge them by the trash that makes the bottom.
