Happy Anniversay, Mike!
Oh man, you'll be doing an article about Anime Crash? That should be interesting... I love reading all these crazy things you write about and it's insane how it's already been one year. Even though the editor had to add that little caveat in, I'm sure all of us would love to see you stay with ANN as long as possible. And, yes, people love lists. They make great and easy conversation topics and it's always fun to see people talk about what they personally feel fits into a specific list. So, once again, Happy Anniversary Mike and here's to another year! (If I had a choice of drink to celebrate with, I'd try to find a Heart Break Cannon, which was a Japanese liquor named after an attack from Ring ni Kakero... I have no idea if it's still made, but that's just an awesome name for a drink!) |

Mike, it's really been a year already since you started writing this column for ANN? Wow, time flies!
Great article as usual. My husband and I enjoyed seeing the Space Battleship Yamato wine, and were especially amused by the Gamilon glass.

My favorite idea for an anniversary was Gundam's 15th anniversary where they created the first AU series, G Gundam, which to this day is still my favorite Gundam series because of how much effort Imagawa put into it. That and a producer once busted into Imagawa's house to demand that he remove a line simply because the producer felt it was an embarrassment to Gundam.
Oh and SRW's 20th anniversary has brought us a new SRW Z game and a new SRW OG game that's on the PS3. |

Anime has now become more of a commodity good to be consumed and less of a craft to be collected.

I knew that magazine article lied to me when it said Gundam X was the first AU series!
On the subject of Gundam... does Gundam Unicorn count as an anniversary project? All I can think of that they did for Gundam in 2009 other than Unicorn was that 'Ring of Gundam' short, which I've yet to see... No big anniversaries stick out of me this year, but others I'm looking forward to are Macross and VOTOMS in the next few years. Not to mention a certain British sci-fi show. |

Gundam X was the third AU, and after 4 straight years of Gundam (V Gundam, G Gundam, Gundam W, and finally Gundam X) most likely suffered from burnout. Gundam X's claim to fame was being the second Gundam to be cancelled. Gundam Unicorn came out late 2006 and only ended in 2009. The 30th anniversary's main release was the Gundam statue. As I already stated Super Robot Wars 20th anniversary is this year. |

X's other claim to fame was being the lowest-rated Gundam in history, but SD Gundam Force ended up getting even lower ratings when it aired in Japan. |

You know, I don't think any of my favorite anime are due for an anniversary anytime soon... which is fine by me, since this year is actually the 40th anniversary celebration of my favorite band, Queen. I just got the new boxset of their first five albums, and I can't wait for the next five in September.
 Now I can think of all sorts of new AMVs I'll never make!

I wouldn't drink that wine. Just look what it did to the gamillons. What was missing from the whole franchise was Capt. Avatar's brand of "water".

It's not anime, but I am looking forward to Sonic the Hedgehog's 20th anniversary!

Imagawa talked about it on the G Gundam DVD, Masahiko Minami who would later go on to create Bones wanted the line "love-love" removed as he found it unseemly. Imagawa asked him to find a new line, but no one could, so Minami relented when he basically stated that while the line is embarrassing so was the other parts. |

He didn't ask for them to come up to lines. I'm rereading the G-File because I had forgotten about this, and he says that Minami and Ousaka came up with more ideas, but he didn't like them as much, so he stuck with Love-Love.
It's really funny to reread because he basically went: "No, you're being dumb, we're doing what I want because I'm the director." |
