Probably another manga or something like that. I doubt they'd announce two anime series

Yeah, I doubt it'll be another TV series in any event. As far as Gundam Age being for kids, having just seen a trailer for it, I think it might surprise people, IMO...

If anyone questions Sunrise ability to make kickass children shows just check out some of the children shows they made in the 90's like G Gundam, and the Brave franchise, some of the best mecha anime of all times.

Given the amount of promotion that Gundam Age has planned I highly doubt that this is another anime project. It would be too impractical for Bandai to try to promote two Gundam series on a massive scale.

It won't be a TV series. A DTV project or a movie strikes me as possible though.

Why does this sound like damage control to me? Like a plan B just in case the diehard fans balked at the idea of a return to a kid friendly Gundam (which they have). Seems a little strange to make to major announcements in one month. Otherwise why not just announce them at the same time?

It depends on what the reaction is in Japan due to the fact that most sales come from there. For all the love Gundam 00 is getting on youtube it sure didn't translate into sales (at least not to rival big hits like FMA, or Eden of the East).

As for the movie or DTV idea, the only thing I can think of is that Morosawa is finally healthy enough to make the Gundam Seed movie, and in the west that would go over about as well as Gundam Age (although in Japan people would be weeping for joy in the streets).

Yeah, this is not really true, as you can see.

Gundam 00 outsold those shows easily.

Eden of the East - 7,947 per volume
FMA: Brotherhood - 12,367 per volume
Gundam 00 - 36,557 per volume

Eden of the East movies - 26,882 (combined)
Gundam 00 movie - 147,485 copies

I believe Charred Knight was referring to the sales figures for North America, in which case countering his statement with Japanese sales figures is hardly appropriate.

In any case, I doubt it'll be more animation, considering there's also the Unicorn OVA ongoing. If they do announce a new animation, odds are it'll be one that won't air for a while. It's possible that they'll attempt another "Golden Age" of gundam by airing numerous series' back-to-back. (As was the case with Victory, G Gundam, Gundam Wing and Gundam X).

And as this Gundam Age Preview, at one point in the past (prior to 00) someone at Bandai stated that the franchise would alternate between products that appealed to younger audiences (to drawn in NEW audiences) and products appealing to older audiences (to maintain the OLD audience).

That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Bandai announces a Wing remake to go along with all of the Wing merch they're pushing these days: all the more so since AGE doesn't look like it'll have the... heft to generate much in the way of gunpla sales.

I was actually thinking this is just another Gundam AGE tie in announcement for books/manga or some along those lines. BTW, while I'm not interested in what I'm seeing here, the idea of doing a new Gundum aimed at a younger audience makes a lot of sense. It'll be good for the domestic Japanese market if they can make this work because Gundam fandom is graying and they need to start getting in new viewers to replace the ones who are dropping off/out of fandom.

I don't know why people are assuming Gundam AGE is simply for kids. The art style may look like it but the trailer didn't (at least not until my internet cut off but I'm just gonna go by what I saw and so far it doesn't look that bad, just different but not horrendous.

But if it is actually misleading and it is for kids, it's safe to assume that it is damage control, but it was one planned from the start because it's way too soon to have come up with a new project right after AGE has been announced.

In either case, I'm looking forward to AGE because at least it's not G Gundam or SD Gundam. Might be another action popcorn anime on the same level as Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny, they were pretty good imo.

As it was already mentioned I was talking about America, I know that Gundam 00 averaged about 40,000 in Japan. I am not delusional into thinking that Eden of the East sold all that well in Japan since Kenji Kamiyama style is more well liked in America.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood preformed pretty poorly in Japan (it only got about 12,000, whereas the first FMA rivaled Gundam Seed in dvd sales).

Wow, FMA:B was a bomb in DVD sales in Japan? What a shame, considering it was given a pretty awesome timeslot: Sundays at 5 PM.

Pretty sure Gundam AGE is aimed at kids... but it's still Gundam; so it's probably going to feature death, war, depression all the same. So I still think it will be a good series, maybe a little less political than usual.
