I've been very intrigued but could someone tell me if I should read these light novels, as I have just watched both series' of the anime, in the chronological format, and really want more of Haruhi.
I know the anime is obviously based on the novels, but I feel like there should be more, and I was wondering if I'd find that in these? Like, I'm guessing all the stories will collectively be in the novels, as opposed to only parts of the stories in other media? |

The novels were translated and written really well (especially the first one), but they don't really add anything to the story that has already been animated. I haven't finished my copy of the fifth book, but I do think that one of the mini stories in it haven't been animated yet.
I've bought all the books simply because I'm a fan of the series, and I have no regrets. |

I think I might pick them up one after the other when I have a bit of money, I enjoyed the animated series, especially the first, and would be happy to read through it all, as well as be kept up to date with the more recent novels. The film of The Disappearance was fantastic too! |

There were also parts of Disappearance that were not animated. And I will argue that these light novels are not written well at all. If you are accustomed to reading higher level books, the preteen writing style / sentence structure will give you a headache. So consider yourself warned.

Ahh, I wasn't aware of the focus on teen audiences, but it makes perfect sense to be fair. It's still managed to be crazily popular, so maybe I'll check it out online, then see if I want to pick any up.

I've watched the anime three times, but the light novels are still enjoyable and reading the story is a different experience from watching it. At some point I'll probably also read the manga version.
