The anime is incredible for a dojin project, great animation and a real tearjerker story. I really want to read the manga version.

If you like this, then I highly recommend checking out the game Planetarian by Key, as it has the same sort of story (a guy is stuck with a seemingly useless robot though he decides to help her). The main difference between the two is setting. Orgel is pretty much set in modern Japan, without too many changes, whereas Planetarian is set in a post-apocalyptic world much further in the future.
