The ultimate results of the two versions of the story are essentially the same even though they happen in different ways, however.

Yup, that's pretty much how I've been explaining it to my friends too. Smile

Wow, thanks for reminding that this was coming out, we've been waiting so long for that final volume that I totally forgot about the omnibus. Wink

No I need to fit this somewhere in one of my next orders.... It's kind of sad for the first 2 volumes I already own, but hey what can you do. I'm just glad that we now have the opportunity to read the whole thing (and 15$ isn't all THAT bad anyway)!

Comparing my individual copy of volume one to the omnibus, the individual volume has a smaller trim size, but better paper and color insert pages. Not a bad deal for $15.

Only re-read the first book so far. Books 2 and 3 should be fun.

Those who are fans of the anime version will find that only about a quarter of the anime content has a direct parallel in the novels. Amongst the most important differences are the addition of Makoto Kusanagi, who plays a prominent role in the second and third novels but never appears in the anime ....

Makoto Kusanagi? The character from GitS?!?

I think the reason they chose the cover image they did, is because Shizuma and Nagisa are on the original release of Book 1 and Hikari and Amane are on the original Book 2, so for people who already own the original 2, at least this new one has a different cover.

The Strawberry Panic! franchise has a fairly complicated history. It originated in late 2003 with a system that would allow readers of the initial story proposals to partly determine the content through voting; the two romantic pairings that would later form the core of the franchise, Shizuma-Aoi and Amane-Hikaru, came from this.

You mean there was a chance that we could have had an Aoi-Tamao couple? Well now I'm saddened to hear this. I'd have much preferred that pairing than Shizuma-Aoi. Sad

I'm also a bit disappointed to hear about all the typos and editing mistakes in the third novel. I already own the omnibus, and even knowing this in advance probably wouldn't have stopped me from getting it since I want to have all three novels, but those kinds of things should not happen. Seven Seas is supposed to be a professional company, they should act like one. Professionals don't make mistakes like that. Or rather, they don't allow mistakes like that to go to print. It's one thing to make the mistake, it's a whole other thing for it to go into production with no one bothering to read the finished product first.

Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I do want to point out that Seven Seas did indeed have people read the third novel. The script for book 3 was copy edited and then the entire laid out novel collection was copy edited. Numerous corrections were made to the laid out book and then those corrected pages were checked and double-checked.

No matter how much you proof something, though, mistakes can still happen for whatever reason. So if anyone spots an error, you're always welcome to contact us via our website (http://gomanga.com/about/sevenseas.php) to let us know that such and such an error happens on page X. If there are errors in the final product, we would definitely like to correct them in a future printing, if we can. We have to know where the errors are, though.

Thanks for the contact info. I highlighted most of the problems that I saw and will send a list of them to you guys when I have a chance.

Nnng, I had no idea an omnibus edition was coming out. Do. Want.

I'm more than a little irritated at calling an over emphasis on emotional scenes a drawback, though. This seems like yet another case of the reviewer not really being who this is aimed at...

I'm curious on what audience you think this novel is aimed for.

The light novels really are the best version of Strawberry Panic, by far. Rereading them through this omnibus as I currently am, I'm reminded of that. It's not art, but it's definitely entertainment. Well worth the money, IMHO.

I'm not buying it because it is not Boogiepop.
