I should get my first Figutto figure this week and I'm glad to read that you feel the quality is consistent. The matching Light figure looks okay, but I can understand why you wouldn't want to pay another $100 for him. The weirdest Death Note action figure I've seen is this one...

I'm guessing it's way out of this column's price range, but I would love to see you pose Misa with your little Neko-chan.

I love Ryuk and normally find him adorable, but his face on this figure is too creepy for me...

Excellent review, I was seriously looking at getting this back when it was on preorder @ RightStuf, but I passed. In the few pics I found prior to this review, Ryuk looked to be a fixed posed figure, or at least a figure where the joints weren't too obnoxious. Personally I find it cheapens the figure, with few exceptions (notably mecha), to see the joints jutting out of the figure like untreated bursa/tumors. Especially for the price these things run.

However, the quality of this is so striking such that I'd overlook the joints and get it anyhow.

Of course (and this is becoming a running theme) Ryuk isn't supposed to be too flexible himself
Ryuk, supposedly against his will, contorted into all kinds of zany positions in Death Note.

we didn't have the money to double-review these very expensive figures (and honestly, Light doesn't make nearly as interesting a toy)
I wish you had been able to, Light is one of the best anime protagonists IMO, and more importantly, the preview shots of his pricey statue looked like crap. An in-depth review here on ANN with detailed photos would have been most appreciated. Now I'll take a second to comment that if the head of ANN hadn't blown, in his own words, "over a six-figure sum on streaming", ANN could have provided the fans with a useful service such as a review of Light Yagami. Wink

Is Ryuk's hair translucent in this figure? It looks like you can see the blue backdrop behind the ends.

Also, Light may be an interesting character, but I'd agree in that he doesn't make as interesting a figurine as Ryuk. He looks like an ordinary young man (which I think was part of the point). Ryuk looks quite distinctive and is more likely to get looks of curiosity from other people.

They want over 150 USD for that Misa Amane figure?! Those jointed knees look like crap, like something off of a GI Joe figure. For that price I personally would not be able to bring myself to articulate the figure, but to each his own, I guess.

Oh yes, if we could afford a Real Action Hero for the column I'd absolutely do it. We totally can't. One time, before Astro Toy, I almost bought the Kenshiro RAH for myself, but alas.

Ryuk's hair is not translucent on this figure.
