Another good title rescued from Tokyopop.

The name of their line just makes me think of the band Sublime though Laughing

Kind of surprised they picked up the Sweet Pool manga, even with originally being a Nitro+Chiral game it seemed the series was kind of like a black sheep compared to how popular TnC and Lamento are. It was still a pretty interesting game though.

I think this is an excellent decision on Viz's part. People can still get their share of BL, and if a title is popular enough, they'll even give it a print run.

I'm personally not a BL fan, but the name SUBLIME is really quite something.

I'm a little disappointed in digital only, as I'd much rather have actual books. Some of those look like they'd be popular, so I can only hope they decide to do print runs later. I like to be able to buy books for things such as Love/Sex Pistols. Or, maybe they're going digital for now on the earlier volumes and when they catch up to where Tokyopop left off they'll go Digital/print? I hope so.

Either way, I'm glad someone else is willing to publish BL, and I definitely plan to buy Three Wolves Mountain and Punch Up.

Oh geez, I completely missed that part because I was only looking at the titles. That really sucks, I only like buying physical copies of manga. Plus Viz seems to never be arsed to reprint any of their lesser-selling series too..

What is with that company? They keep avoiding the obvious titles like Descendants of Darkness 12 and Sakura-Gari. Mad

While I'm sad that they're planning to do this digital only, I'm still very very happy Viz is taking on a BL/Yaoi only line.

I was even thinking about this the other day XD
Since i've become a giant fan of Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi (a title TP had licensed but failed to distribute) I was thinking about other companies that would take on a somewhat lengthy series since all the other BL publishers seem to only publish titles that only last 3 volumes tops. Then I thought "oh yeah! Vi---oh right, they dont really do BL...."

then this happens XD

hopefully this will work out well enough for them that they'll put titles into physical copies too eventually (and then ultimately re-license Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi :P)

What I want to know is whether their digital editions will be available outside of North America.

If not. fudge it.

Not all of the titles listed are digital release only as they've also listed their print lineup titles.
I don't think I've heard of any of the titles that are on their print lineup, but I'll be sure to check up on those. I do hope Viz gets Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi. I was very disappointed when TokyoPop shut down before the first volume was released.

Wow, there really is no pleasing you guys is there, with everyone wanting a print release and refusing to pay for a digital release.
As a BL fan, I'm happy to get a digital or print release since there has been nothing but the DMP imprints of BL being released in North America lately.

As BL fans we should all be happy that:
1. A large manga company like VIZ is willing to publish BL
2. That they are offering a variety of BL titles from soft-core to hardcore.
3. That you now have the opportunity to legally purchase these titles and to help support your favorite mangaka.

Instead of being negative about the situation, you should be willing to support VIZ in their effects to offer you the "BL fans" more English BL titles.

And remember, the digital releases may be VIZ's way of testing the waters to see how well a title will sell before they invest in a print run of it, since a print release is more expensive then a digital release. So, if you don't buy a digital copy, you'll probably never see a print copy of the title you want.

Anyway, I plan to damn near purchase everything that has been announced (give or take 1 or 2 titles). So, I'm looking at saving my pennies. I already own the volumes of Love Pistols that were released by Tokyopop, so I would have to think about if I want to double dip for that series.

According to Deb Aoki (on twitter), it'll be worldwide digital releases. She had some more info that wasn't covered by this article, so look over her recent tweets for more details.

Did anybody read the article? The publisher will release globally, so unless you live in Mars or the Moon, you'll be able to get a copy. As far as digital content goes, right now you can purchase Viz titles digitally on any iOS system and on their Vizmanga.com website. The SuBLime website won't be region locked. They have the rights to publish BL digitally to anybody in this planet with a computer and internet access. Just hope your country doesn't block the website.

In the summer we'll see what titles will be printed. My hope is that they keep the prices the same as they have on the Viz Manga website.

That's what I'd like to know. If people actually read the list and the article they would have noticed that there are already some titles already announced for print release.

This is awesome news, as Sex Pistols was one of TokyoPop's BLU titles whose loss I was lamenting. Though I really prefer printed book form, if this is the only way I can get it I'll happily pay. Normally I'm a bit "meh" about digital releases but at least this is "download to own" and not "rent until the website closes or removes the book." That's a huge plus. I just hope SuBLime's digital versions don't cost just as much as a printed book.

And.... my god, so many other titles there that I want too. Sweet Pool, Kekkon Zenya, Punch Up... and Three Wolves Mountain, one of the first scanlations I ever read. I'm gonna end up getting almost all of these, and probably any & all print versions.

Thanks!

I don't own an iOS device so most of Viz's digital offerings are out of my reach. Vizmanga.com is not available in Europe. JManga is also restricted to North America. It's nice to see a major publisher making an effort to reach a global audience.

My first post did sound a little grumpy but I really am happy to see a new publisher enter the game. I hope they're successful with it. I'm certain to buy something both in digital format and in print even if I only recognize a couple of names in this initial lineup.
