Unless Oda is doing the writing again, I don't see how this movie will even approach Strong World...

I really want to wish that Oda was not in charge of the script for Strong World.

It's hard to believe that spoiler[he could forget something as simple as Gigant Thor Axe being impossible because of rubber's insulate properties regarding electricity. What a mockery that was of One Piece canon. I also want to hope that Oda isn't the one who had Nami get captured (twice if I recall) in the movie.] Strong World was just really, really bad.

actually, that attack is quite possible. spoiler[Rubber is an insulator because the electrons can't just move freely, unlike in metal. All the charge sticks to the surface of the rubber, instead of flowing through Luffy. If Luffy were to hit somebody with a charged arm, the charges would automatically move to whoever that person is (therefore frying him xD). Path of least resistance and all that. ]

Wait, what?
Strong World wasn't a bad movie. In fact, it's exactly the opposite.
Like Zerochiten said, that attack is very possible.
spoiler[And even though Nami got captured, it's not like she was a helpless damsel-in-distress. She not only escaped, but when she returned, she also managed to sabotage Shiki's entire operation.]

Didn't think Strong World was as good as people make out.
Better than the standard money-making anime film, yes, but nothing special.
Hopefully this film continues with the decent standard set by Strong World though.
I assume this will be released in 2012 then?

I thought Strong World was better than most of the One Piece movies but Hosoda's One Piece film was still the best.

Let's be kind of honest here, people, Nami's always been pretty secondary to be fair. Looking back to the first few movies is evidence enough when Nami was captured to be some guy's bride. Her role is kind of to get kidnapped or in trouble.

The movies are really about Luffy/Zoro/Sanji with maybe a side character or two helping out every so often like Usopp or Chopper. Nami always gets the shaft and is there primarily for fanservice... Strong World and that one where her breasts are 50x more jiggly and she's in some extremely skimpy dress with Robin are just more obvious about it. I'm sure they'll have fun with Nami's new world outfit

Anyway, I completely forgot OP had no movies for a few years, and it was kind of shocking to realize that. I thought it got a new one each year, but I guess they didn't unless you count that little chase short.

^^ I always thought of Nami as a Fujiko kind of character, but I'm not going to say she usually gets into trouble. (Maybe in the movies though, I think that's what you mean) But for the most part in the Manga she gets herself out of trouble and the fanservice in OP tends to be more subtle than most manga. She does have shonen heroine aspects (attractive, caring, gets rescued and helps the main character, anger issues), but she feels a lot like her own character to me too/more so, breaking many heroine stereotypes (immoral and dishonest, using her sexy status to take advantage of others, not being a healer, sly and cunning, grows into being more useful of a character, and often essential to the cast outside of "girlfriend", on top of no romantic relations with main character).

Yeah, I agree!

I agree with others with saying that calling Strong World "just really, really bad" is an over-exaggeration of dramatic proportions. It could have been better though, that I agree with you.

I think what mainly would help is more involvement from Oda, maybe besides just doing the scenario and the back-stories he could have some more input on the writing and direction as well (or maybe they can just get better directors who don't feel like they need to stick in filler scenes in the middle of a movie)

In STRONG WORLD he didn't really have complete control over the script, but he did write some of it and was the scenario and character designer. (It says in the credits... and commercials it hints at that). I also found the animation direction to be lacking... or not really lacking, just lazy like the TV show. (Or not even lazy, maybe scared and careful to not change anything from the source material.. leaving little nuggets of silly filler that seem out of place and at times out of character, but change nothing saving itself from future plot holes)

I realize that writing movie scripts is completely different form manga, but I didn't particularly enjoy the damsel in distress aspect of the film although it had a lot of cool moments that were distinctly Oda, if you've read both the manga and seen the anime you probably could point out which parts were less likely him and which parts were likely him (which I'm sure you can as with everyone else here) So I hope the next movie takes it's time (to not take away from the original Manga) but has even more Oda involvement.

Wholeheartedly agree. I loved Mamoru Hosoda's take on the One Piece franchise even if it wasn't like Oda's narrative style at all. The movie was pretty gloomy and interesting. Strong World had both good and bad parts, but the climax was well worth the investment in the film.

Well, although Strong World was indeed one of the best or even the top One Piece movie the same discrepancies can be observed as in most other productions not relevant to the original story. That is why I, too, was discontent with the fact Oda participated in the development and letting the movie being marketed as being in canon with the anime/manga.
For example, there was the unusual behavior of Luffy and Nami at certain situations. Especially the end was unsatisfying since Luffy would not let the issue of Nami leaving his crew unresolved ( I assume he still didn't hear the end of the message).
Shiki was far to weak for having been able to fight an admiral and vice-admiral. At his level he would have been beaten with two punches but the story in the movie implies a longer and bigger fight.
The thor thing shouldn't be as already mentioned possible, however not because rubber is an insulator but rather due to Luffy's rubber electrical resistance wasn't broken even at 200 mio. volts in the Skypia arc.
For Zoro using Asura in the last fight was also too much. It made the attack seem weaker than in the story line.
In any way the characters strength was too often imbalanced.

If Oda only designed the costumes and creatures and supervised the crew only to improve a given product there's no need to sell as if the movie could've been an extension to the story.
