I agree. There's a "not" missing from the title and even this would be skeptical.

Some are still counting their record-breaking revenues to even bother with this right now. Perhaps when their other titles aren't selling well they take notice.

Give it time. Counting billions of Yen is a daunting task. Rolling Eyes

Yeah, because DVDs are SO affordable in Japan. They give it out like candy over there!

Uh, no wait. I lied. I, nor anyone else in Japan who isn't completely entrenched in the hobby to a point of social retardation, can afford Japanese DVDs.

Don't condone the crime in any way, but it's important to hate the game, not the player.

Rental stores like Tsutaya have considerable CD collections and keep up on new releases...I was under the impression this was sort of a "compromise".

I believe it's because of peer pressure and lack of money (they're teens, not people that are working). Happens mostly because of that even here in the USA for some people (some few nowadays).

haha, definitely an "admitted to..." statistic there, i imagine a poll in America would yield even less than that since most people won't admit to it incase they get in trouble, the real figure has got to be hitting over 75% at least, particulary for school/college students, probably less for adults in their 30's and over

Except that teens have an easier time buying manga and light novels since they are much, much cheaper than anime home media releases. 500-600yen for one volume of a light novel is pretty good bang for the buck or 400 yen for a weekly that contains a ton of series to read.

So, I'm not surprised at the article at all unless the polled teens also illegally download manga and light novel scans.

Now, we need to know what content they were downloading. Probably most were downloading music, and only a VERY small percentage were downloading anime.
