Elizabeth Olsen, wow, that just seems like a complete random pick. Then again for a while every time I heard the last name Olsen, I think of the show Full House. As odd as that show was at times, compared to how odd this Oldboy remake will be, well that just makes any 80's show look good, even if the content was sometimes off the wall.

Then should Asia stop remaking American films? Because for the last 4 years Japan/China/South Korea has been remaking American films. China remade Cellular as Connected, Zhang Yimou remade Blood Simple into A Simple Noodle Story. China and Hong Kong also remade What women want. Japan has remake Sideways, Ghost, and they have said they'll remake more American film. You know what's funny, the people that complain about US remaking Asian film has never complain about Asia doing the same thing to US films.

Americans complain about Hollywood remaking old movies all the time, anime or not. The converse of that would be Asians complaining about their domestic movie industry, not Americans complaining about Asian movies producers. Do Asians complain about their movies producers remaking old and foreign movies? I don't know and don't think you'd be able to tell me. But regardless of what Asians complain about it doesn't reduce or change American complaints toward Hollywood. |

It's safer to pick unknowns or less-knowns - there's less baggage. Though they are continuing to white-wash it.

Whether it's a domestic or foreign, remakes are silly. The original film speaks for itself. offhand note: big difference between the director of Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco and the director of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Also, I bet this remake won't even make it to production. |

In all honesty, will this be the first Spike Lee film to star a white person? I have not seen all of his previous work. I certainly don't think anyone would have minded some more Denzel Washington.
More importantly, and less difficult to determine ahead of time: will this film be made by Good Spike Lee (Malcolm X) or Bad Spike Lee (Bamboozled)? |

Then don't see it. When someone decides to take a story that's already been told in one format and retell in another, be it a remake, localizing a foreign film, or taking something animated and making it live action, they're not doing it for you or people like you, they're doing it for the people who wouldn't have seen it otherwise. So by all means don't see the movie, it couldn't possibly spoil the original movie for you. |
