Does this mean Gintama will have a parody of Gon as its final episode?

Well, sounds like this new series is over. Like Bleach, they would have announced a timeslot change a month beforehand in Jump, and they haven't, so...

This is bizarre given Gintama only just recently went back into production. I guess the ratings post- break weren't strong enough?

I think it's only on hiatus, considering how close they are to the manga.

Gon? Isn't that a series about a little chubby orange dinosaur? Laughing

Looks like it is. I love the manga, but I can't figure out how it'd make a good 24-minute anime series. You'd think it would be best served in portions of 3-5 minutes.

I have no idea how you came up with that, considering all the dialogue in the manga, and that each chapter is around 20 pages. What you're talking about is often done with 4-panel gag-manga adaptions that actually don't have as much going on in them as a normal Gintama chapter does, but for a manga like this, 24 minutes is perfect. Especially considering the various story arcs. How would you feel about the Benizakura arc being divided in portions of 3-5 minutes? Or the first Yoshiwara arc that lasted for 8 whole 24 minute episodes?

About Gon taking over Gintama's timeslot, I think it's suffice to say that they're just taking another break. At least it's better than ruining it with fillers. Arrow

I think it's just the same case as with Bleach.
They are running too close to the manga.
These days, fillers can be the death of a series, so it's alot better to take a year out, let the manga material pile up, then come back with a bang rather than run loads of fillers and risk getting canceled full stop.
Plus, it gives new shows a chance to establish themselves as a time slot is free and fans of these particular series will be looking for something else to watch in the mean time.
It's a win-win situation in my eyes.
Plus, isn't there a second Gintama movie due based on the Yoshiwara arc this year?

The Bleach TV anime series is getting cancelled. It's not waiting for the manga to pile up more material, it is ending completely. I don't know if you've missed all the news articles concerning the Bleach anime ending its run, or if you just had your hopes up, but it's not coming back. The Bleach manga has also been announced to be entering its final arc. In short, the most probable outcome is that the Bleach anime will end completely with a filler that's not related to the new manga arc one way or the other. Whereas they may make some sort of movie/OVA series based on that particular arc which they will release at a later point.

There is nothing to support that claim. All that's known is that everything points to it rushing to finish the current arc and going off the air come April. It can always come back in 1 year or whatever and continue. Same is true for Gintama. Both of them are running up against the manga.

I still get the feeling people haven't gotten that Bleach is ending or perhaps they just wanna stay blissfully ignorant about the whole thing. For me personally, Bleach is good but not good enough that I want to keep it around forever. Im somewhat pleased to see this happen because I believe that it will somehow get replaced by a something equal or even better in the future.

It's time to let other cleaning products have their chance at success.

And as for Gintama...

For me that is a diffrent matter since I have come to love it completely and utterly. I really hope this is not the end for the anime and that it will return in a year or so with more hysterical moments.

I think you're misinterpreting what Tamaria was talking about. I think Tamaria was referring to GON being 3-5 minutes with the little-nonexistent dialogue in the manga, not Gintama. We all know Gintama is pretty lengthy in dialogue per chapter.

People actually read Gon? Oh, I'm sorry then. My bad. Arrow

Well they were gone for a year and it took a year to nearly catch up with the manga, it makes sense but I'm still sad! I hope it comes back again.

There's one thing that kind of bugs me though. I don't know what usually happens when a long running anime ends because I don't follow many of them but I know for a fact that when the first Gintama series ended they announced it months in advance but this time they haven't announced anything at all other than the new series taking the spot. They did the same thing with Bleach, it's just strange to me.
