Apparently they also searched the board administrators.

Such a bullshit charge, as if they are to constantly monitor and delete any post dealing with drugs (which the article states MPD wants)
They need to make 2ch really anonymous by not logging IP, or deleting logs after a short time.
Of course, none of this would have happened if you didn't have idiotic laws in the first place

What's so bad about monitoring for illegal activity? It's not like it's technologically impossible. If this was a physical location you wouldn't be allowed to turn a blind eye to criminal activity and actually aid it by not checking IDs or erasing surveillance footage so that it's difficult to track criminals. Why should an online site get the ok to do that, especially when it crosses into offline crimes?

Seems to some Japanese, this all sounds like the searches were carried out because the authorities don't know "how the message board is operated," and that they merely used the illegal drug-related user postings as guise to attain search warrants from the courts, with between this sort of constitutionally-questionable police-state activity and the press clubs, how Japanese authorities can keep a tight grip on "free" speech.
