Don't like the law, but there are times in life where you have to quit while you're ahead and think about eyes only or listen/watch on a webstream.

Yeah, this will probably end up being a clusterfuck of people mailing each other usbs or something.

Or don't be stupid and use a Peer Guardian-esque program. If you can evade the fanatical monoliths of EA and Activision, you can probably evade these guys. Pirates can always find a way.

This is happening in Japan. There's at least one pretty good reason that they don't need to mail each other anime fansubs. Smile

I'm actually glad to see the government in Japan crack down on illegal distirbution of anime. I mean I know all the arguments on why some people don't think its that bad, and yes there are worse crimes out there. But hey nothing wrong with protecting the anime industry.

I wonder how badly this law will effect NEETs; they already have no job and therefore no source of income to pay for the overpriced BD/DVDs.

Stopping NEETs from downloading anime = even more free time and nothing to do!

any way, what I find strange is that the law (or at the very least, the article) doesn't cover games, books and mangas!

I don't see this as having any huge extra effect. People will just assume they aren't the one that will get hit. I mean, Share has been known to be unsecure for 5 years now and yet people still primarily use that to share P2P content. Why they don't use Perfect Dark which keeps updating the anonymizing scheme, I'll never know.

Presumably, we only hear about the idiots who don't do as much.

There are numerous things to say here:
1) Fansubbing has spread the beauty of anime to countless millions, which increases the demand for the products.
2) Granted not everyone goes out and buys the releases, but many do, in fact most probably do when it comes to their favorites.
3) Most anime is never released outside of Japan, even if it is licensed.
4) What about the hundreds of languages that it is never translated into?
5) Fansubbers put in countless hours to make their productions without getting PAID for it.
6) Which brings up the point of copyright law in the first place, to protect the rights to make profit off of their material, if there is no profit being made, what is the concern?
7) So lets blend in a theoretical, does this mean that if you show your anime DVD with friends, they are obligated to pay money to the copyright holders because they VIEWED it?
8) Many licensures are only concerned with the profit and put out some of the worst translations, and sometimes the worst quality DVD's ever.
9) Why would anyone want to throw out $20 for 4 episodes or $40-$100+ for a season for something they have never seen, have no idea they will like and cannot possibly recoop if it is the lamest thing ever?
10) I refer to the period from 2000-2010 as the anime decade. Millions of new fans in the United States alone. Why? I believe that one reason is the quality has gotten so much better, but another I believe is the availability for them to watch it online, or download and watch. They then turn around and buy the official releases because they LIKE it.

I could probably think up more, but I think that anyone who makes such a comment as that, has no clue what fansubbing entails. Take a look at the fansubbing process on Doki fansub page, or 8thSin fansubs fansub comparison. Seriously, a page dedicated (and it isn't the only one) to grading the translations of fansubs (and CR and Nico too) because they LOVE to, not because they want to make a PROFIT.

This whole theory of fansubbing is gonna destroy the anime industry is ludicrous! The industry would have collapsed 5 years ago if this were true. But quite the opposite has happened. Some people cannot use logic.

@Fansubs: Judging by your name and post its quite obvious there is extreme bias in your words. Also questioning one's logic mearly because you do not agree with your views is rather rude.

I could say many negative things about your post, but I will refrain from doing so because I do not have the time or energy to argue with some random person on the internet.

Your very welcome to your own views on the subject, but don't bash others because they disagree.

Sorry I didn't realize that you would be so easy to offend, and I do not see how there would be "negative" things to say about my "opinion" all is good, but seriously now. as a question, How much do yoiu know about fansub groups?
