Yea I noticed the other day while browsing the free section of Fios on demand that they added Funimation and a few shows. But currently they removed the shows. They might just be updating now though. But its cool they have it on demand now. Would like to see what they start putting up. Hopefully some new shows.

Looks like Funimation listened to the consumers and brought back this channel. This isn't as common as this used to be in the past, but nice to see that the voice of consumers were heard and as a result, action was taken.

Funi didn't bring the channel back, because they didn't take it away in the first place. That was Verizon's decision, along with a few other channels they pulled.
They simply placed the channel on VOD only, similar to Anime Network and Funimation on other providers. For something with such a small audience, it probably makes more sense. |

So the Funimation Channel didn't actually get brought back. They just have a bunch of shows you can rent for the day.

Yes. There is no actual channel but the shows are on demand and they are free. So you can rent them everyday all day until they remove them. |

So its just like streaming, except with much better bitrates. |

This is certainly better than nothing, but still, nothing beats an actual channel where you watch whatever's on.

What about The Anime Network? I guess carrying the rare live action movie technically disqualifies them? Anyway, this is good news for those with fios. What I'd like to know is who is Olympusat and what's their relationship to Funi? Are they an On Demand service provider? |

You gotta claim whatever titles you can, I guess. OlympuSat is the satellite company that carries and delivers their signal. They carry a large number of channels, including ones owned by the large media companies. |

That's nice seeing as before they always shafted us with the VOD service. We never got the option to rent any of that stuff heck were weren't even getting any of the same free VOD stuff others were getting. Not that I should complain the free VOD was how i got into Detective Conan.

I can't get FUNimation but I'm happy for them. Love FUNimation and I hope they stay in business. It's easily the best NA Anime company imo.

Actually this change is a net loss for anime fans among subscribers to FiOS. The linear SD channel is now gone entirely, and only the quite-limited on-demand service is available. Only a year or so ago there were attempts to pressure Verizon to carry the HD linear channel as well. Obviously they've gone entirely in the opposite direction.
I don't really care since I can watch Funimation's shows on Hulu or its own video site, and many of the shows on Hulu are available with subtitles. I'd watch the occasional dubbed episode of School Rumble on FiOS to pass the time, but otherwise I much prefer subtitles. |
