Considering how laughable Shooty has been recently, a new rival would be pretty welcome.
He ain't got nothing on Shinji, that's for sure. Though it's hard to top Shinji without just redoing the same storyline again. |

^ I wouldn't be so sure about Snivy. If you look carefully, we have both Oshawott and Samurott on the poster. The final forms of the Unova starters are probably just there for advertising purposes, with Oshawott being the only starter there due to it essentially being the secondary mascot.
I agree that Ash needs a new rival. Trip (Shooti) has been absolutely terrible. (Also, might be worth mentioning that Isshu's English name is "Unova").
During the Diamond & Pearl season Piplup was given an everstone to stop it from evolving. |

Why is it called Best Wishes in Japan, but Black and White in America? Why not just use the English the Japanese used?

Best Wishes lost its pun (besuto uisshu) when Isshu was localized to Unova. |

Easier to promote the games when the title of the show is the same as the game, and that's all the dub really cares about. Same reason why they renamed the movies to just a generic "Black and White" title. Well, in addition to the Isshu thing, a common phrase in the original is the characters saying "Best Wishes" to each other when they greet each other, see each other off, and wish each other luck on their road to their respective dreams. I don't know if they still actually say that in the dub, but it also loses it's meaning when the show isn't titled that anymore. Also, we're getting a special OVA apparently. |

I have to be honest, if its a tournoment then I may acctually have a reason to see this again. It'll get extra brownie points if it ends Ash's story and moves on to aother damn character (which is too much to ask for, I know, its not digimon
 )
still pumped for the games though. |

You can complain all you like, but the kids who watch the series now like Hikari/Dawn. Kasumi/Misty is old-school stuff and she gets an episode or two of screentime in a season, but... that's all. She's only popular to older fans like us who like our nostalgia.
English or Japanese voice? I don't remember the English voice at all, but the Japanese voice is kinda scratchy and annoying. Not that it takes away from its cuteness. Now, having Mijumaru/water-starter evolve fully into Daikenki would be EPIC. I am a huge Daikenki fan and I'm REALLY hoping to see him animated with some awesome moves in the future. I heard there was one in a minor scene in last year's movies, but I haven't seen them yet. Yeah, Kasumi's not really relevant enough for top billing like Hikari is (plus Hikari got an OVA last year) and is the fan favorite.
Personally I hope Tsutarja never evolves. I love her voice too much Anyway, since it's been confirmed only a few Gym Leaders are being replaced in Black and White 2, I wonder how the anime is going to handle this. Can't imagine he'd go back and fight Kamitsure again. |

I think everyone is giving Dawn/Hikari too much credit here. Her little penguin was popular in Japan. On Pikachu's level. Some even say he was more popular then Pikachu when DP was airing. I would assume they decided to bring her back because of that. Because her signature Pokemon ended up becoming one of the franchises key mascots. And in Misty's defense it's not like kids don't know her. She's been a part of every single video game generation, she was a main character for years, she was popular enough to get a significant amount of specials dedicated to her during AG, and the episodes featuring her still do reair in Japan on kids networks from what I understand. They reair here on Boomerang and occasionally CN puts older episodes on too. DVDs, rental DVDs for Japan, and various other things have also kept her in the eye so that children know who she is. That doesn't even factor in older fans who show older episodes to younger relatives. Sure she's not as relevant but she isn't going to fade into obscurity just because hasn't been on in a few years. Her returning for an episode or two would probably excite more then just the older fans looking for nostalgia. Not that I think she's still as relevant now as she was a few years ago though of course. I'm not like some of those more delusional fans out there. I like Misty, but I understand her time has come and gone. I think that goes for May too. And if not for this news it would have applied to Dawn. But any of them coming back for a few episodes is a lot more likely then some believe. The same goes for anyone who traveled with Ash for a long time. They were main characters after all. Some say this is probably just to promote her return episode but eh. She's on the promo poster, her starter is as popular as Pikachu in Japan and probably America, and finally Piplup is right up front with Pikachu and Oshawott while the other two main character have their signature Pokemon right with them. Piplup is even bigger then Dawn on the poster... I'll be fine with it coming back if it doesn't hog screen time again... There came a point towards the end of DP where it was getting a focus episode a month from what I remember. I'd have to double check though. It's been a while. |
