I'm kind of amazed that Taiko is doing so well. But then again, it could just be a weak week over there. Kinda bummed that MGS HD isn't doing so hot though.

The 360 doesn't sell well mainly because it's from "dirty foreigners" than any percieved flaw with it.

That, and it's games library is more western-based, due to the fact that no one in Japan actually buys it.

More like whoever wants a 360 already has a 360. Sure, there are western games released on the 360 in Japan, but it's the system for niche gaming - visual novels (losing it's ground, but it was and sort of still is the VN system of this generation), shmups of mostly the bullet-hell variety (thank you CAVE) and other quirky games (idolmaster, dream club, gal gun, some bizarre dating sim/dancing game for the kinect whose name eludes me right now, etc.)

Yeah, somehow it became the "Otaku" console of Japan...no idea how that one happened.

Yeah, interestingly enough the 360 has more of a reputation of being an "otaku" console in Japan, mostly due to the fact that it's far easier for developers with very small budgets to work on the 360, probably because it's so similar to PC (and also the Taito architecture, meaning it's far easier for arcade games to be ported to it). The PS3 is more of the "gamer" console, since it's more expensive to develop for, meaning it's mostly big-name devs working on it.

Whoa, PSP below PSV, even PS3!
It's not that the PSV is up, but the PSP is severely down, more than the other consoles went down.

The PS2 is most likely a lot cheaper too by now, not to mention the biggest library.

Though that's for anything, from cars to appliances to phones (until the iPhone and now the Galaxy), etc.

If it's only gonna sell in Japan though, that limits their budgets. So it's a Catch-22 - it's more expensive to develop for, but they can't put too much money on it.
