Hmm, this kinda reminds me of Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!

I just KNOW that when this airs, Sentai or Funi are going to snap it up.

And I have no problem with that.

I'm still waiting for the 3DS game to come over here... It'll be weird if the anime releases here first.

Pigs have flown the coop.

Did not know about this getting an anime.

And you know what?

I'm perfectly okay with it.

I find that kinda surprising to hear from you. Huh.

Anyway, it looks like blonde-haired girl at the right of the key art-- 'Katsuragi,' apparently-- got a bit of an, er, upgrade. I mean, jeez, look at the game's original art:

Meanwhile, her anime counterpart's looking to sport Chun-Li-calibre thighs, at least in size (seriously, they're tree trunks here). Kinda makes sense, considering that her kicks are her weapons, I guess....? Kinda wondering if they went a bit overboard here. Maybe it's a matter of the key art's perspective...

My opinions toward schlocky fanservice anime have mellowed quite a bit. Whether I just got bored of hating on them or the onset of puberty has assisted in this, remains to be seen.

I think that's because in the west, the gaming market is pretty different from the anime/manga market, while in Japan and Asia there is a large amount of overlap.

"We’ll have to see," Berry replied when I asked about the Kagura titles. "Not a flat out no, but it’s a title that would be hard to bring over as a packaged title."

"I mean we do get a lot of request for [Senran Kagura], so there are at least some fans that want to see that title. And it is a solid beat ‘em up in addition to all of the other stuff the title is well known for." Laughing

from Kenichiro Takaki below:
Quote:
"Just so you know, there are many people who want to see Senran Kagura released overseas…," I said.

"Haha! Thanks," Takaki replied in a Siliconera interview. "Ninjas, sushi, schoolgirls, samurai, and boobs. These are the things that cross all borders, and tie us together!"

Quote:
If we can bring it out overseas, we will do it. But, things like moe and the cultural appeal and fetishes between Japan and America are different in many ways. If we brought it out we may have to make some adjustments so it has broader appeal. I know that’s not what your readers want to hear, though.

That would suck, but editing and/or censoring is not uncommon for games, unlike anime.

Interviews with the game's producer Kenichiro Takaki, who proposed the idea and originated the story and characters with Yukinori Kitajima:

Quote:
In Japan, you won’t get a CERO Z rating because of something sexual. You just won’t be able to release it. Something like a sex scene won’t be accepted. There was nothing I had to remove to avoid a "zed" rating and since you can’t show exposed boobs you have to adjust the angle so it’s suggestive, but not explicit.

You have tricks for doing that?

[Laughs and pulls out Senran Kagura's art book from the limited edition.] So, this is where she has panties on, but from this angle it looks like she doesn’t. This is another moe point or keyword. She really does have panties on! You just can’t see them.

Quote:
[Laughs.] Moe is not just attributed to young anime style girls. There is also gun moe where someone thinks "I love this gun," "this gun is awesome and it’s mine." [Laughs.]

It’s hard to say that there is something from America that is moe, but the closest thing, and I don’t think anyone is going to understand is Mortal Kombat.

Yeah I don’t understand! [Laughs.] That’s… pretty surprising! Could you explain why?

I don’t know if I can explain it, that’s just how deep moe is. [Laughs.]

Quote:
You know it’s kind of like Bollywood movies where everyone is singing and dancing. People in India love it, but everyone else in the world wonders what’s going on. There is a certain group of people that really, really like it [moe], but there’s another group that doesn’t. That’s just the way it is. It’s not something you can force on people. Moe games in the West are like the Bollywood movies of the gaming industry.

Quote:
It’s part of Japanese culture going very far back. In America, war is close to people’s experience a lot of people know people in the military. Maybe, that’s why in America there are war games that aim for realism.

Japan is kind of a weird country. Going way, way back before moe there was Ukiyo-e in the Edo period where people were drawing strange stuff. Going even further back to the Tale of Genji, this is a story about an old guy who raises a girl to be his perfect woman. That’s the kind of country this is! [Laughs.]

(see also Shunga)
Quote:
Let’s say one day, moe just wasn’t popular in Japan anymore. What would you want to do? What other style would you like to try for your second project?

In that situation, I would want to make a FPS. I think it’s really hard to do, though.

Would you want to make a moe FPS?

Yeah, with squirt guns and you aim at their chests. [Laughs.]

Quote:
If I had the budget, I’d like to make a game with really muscular characters who tear each other’s clothes off.

Quote:
I have to ask…what does your wife think of all this?

She helped a lot to make this game great by dropping lots of ideas on me from a perspective I can’t experience. ...

@Animerican14: I don't know, I think thick thighs and all are still keeping the spirit of the original designs. For example, game art from the sequel, Senran Kagura Burst:
