Great inspirational story, but the facts are off on Shinji Morisue.

In the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the Japanese team won the Bronze, not the gold and Morisue was not the all-around gold medalist, which is implied by the wording of the story. However, the all-around gold was won by a Japanese gymnast: Koji Gushiken.

Morisue won gold on the Horizontal Bar, tied for silver on the Long Horse Vault, and got the Bronze for the team competition. A trifecta of medals and a very worthy achievement! The fact that he then translated these experiences into an award winning manga that inspired a new generation of Japanese gymnasts, including one who reached the ultimate pinnacle of the sport, is wonderful! More athletes should apply the lessons they have learned over the years of hard work and dedication to write inspirational stories once their playing careers are over! Far too many only ever write books that are thinly veiled self-aggrandizement instead of good fiction that inspires readers, young and old, to achieve greatness in their own lives!

Bravo to both the current and former Olympic gold medalists!

Good for him. It's great to know that manga/anime could have a great influence. I feel like trying some sports anime now.

going to be sound like a pedantic and Olympic following twat but I am sure he got a silver in the team event and bronze went to GB.
