Figures, probably weren't selling nearly as much anymore.

This is heartbreaking for me. I've been a NP subscriber for 20 years. Though my love affair with video games waned over time, I continued to subscribe. It was important to my formative years in reading. When I moved as a kid, it was waiting for me where I moved. Before I was on the internet, I was all over NP, you had to tear me away from it.

The previews, the reviews, the detailed maps, the player's guides, the comics, the contests, the letters pages... Nester...

I still have tons of back issues stacked up in my house. I thought about getting rid of some of them, but now I can't bring myself to. Not for a while, anyway.

This really sucks.

Once they started to switch from having more maps and game hints to being more news and preview based, I stopped subscribing since I was learning most of it on the internet beforehand. No matter what, though, I don't think they could do much considering the fact that everything's available on the internet.

Still, this is kind of sad for me. I have Nintendo Power to thank for introducing me to a lot of games I would have never heard of, and for being one of the biggest factors as a kid for me becoming as big of a gamer as I am today.

I like NP more for it's artwork and their unique guides that are littered with cool pictures and cover art. For example that cover is really cool. Sad to see NP gone.

Sad to hear that, I used to read Nintendo Power since I was an elementary school kid (9-10 years old). Man, it was very useful, this was my only info on the world of video game. This was way before where you can find video game news online (IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku, etc). I wonder, who'll succeed Nintendo Power, will it be online (a la Playstation Blog)?

I am a former subscriber from back in elementary+middleschool. I've them to thank for the best subscriber freebie I've ever gotten out of any magazine, the Super Smash Bros. Melee orchestrated soundtrack. Good stuff, last I checked it was going for about $50 on Amazon. Nintendo Power totally existed to make Nintendo money, but I really got the sense the people working on it got some enjoyment out of their work.

I was never a subscriber, but this does suck for the people who do. I know if I was a die-hard subscriber to any magazine, I'd be ripped to shreds if it was canceled.

I was never a subscriber but like all gamers I know about Nintendo power. Wow, this is really the end of an era. It's a sad day for video games.

That's a shame. I used to love reading these as a kid back in the 90's.

I feel bad; I haven't read one of those in ages but ohhh how I would always check out the latest issue at the local library back then...

OMG! I personally wasn't a sub to this mag, but wow. 24 years and only now they're canning it. Quite an impressive and long run. R.I.P. Nintendo Power. May you be in the hearts of kids in the 90s and early 2000s.

While it's a sad thing to see that all of the video games magazines fixtures from the 90's are crumbling down, it's inevitable. They can't compete with the internet for news and the only thing going for them are their reviews and articles. I had high hopes when EGM came back from the dead but their new format is really a half-assed version of their app.

Nintendo Power is a staple of my childhood. I had the magazines in the 80's / early 90's period (with Howard & Nester, hand-drawn illustrations and inch-squared screenshots montages of maps, take that kids Laughing ) and really, in those days, that was one of the few sources for info on NES games. I had a Genesis so I skipped the SNES era but subscribed for the N64 years. I think I still have them n a box somewhere in the house.

Still....free Dragon Warrior games and strategy guide special issues FTW.

Oh man, some of the freebies were amazing. The Smash Bros soundtrack, and the Zelda Collector's Edition are things I still use to this day.

And another piece of my childhood slips away....

I used to receive Nintendo Power back in the day, and I had a healthy collection up through the 90s.
While I still have few of the Players Guides (which I STILL use to this day) and the "Super Mario Adventures" TPB,
sadly, I threw the issues away when I was in college (or finishing H.S., I forget Razz) to make extra space in my closet and I haven't read NP since.
Today when I visit my mom, I can still see the tape marks left behind from the NP posters I had on my bedroom walls.

Crying or Very sad *sigh*
Mem - o - ries....
