As someone who has played the game since it's launch I have to say the trailer nearly brought tears to my eyes. It tells such a bittersweet story and if one has been playing the game and come to love the world it's certainly sad.

It was extremely well done and epic though. I can't wait to see what SE is able to do with A realm Reborn. Pretty much everything about it seems like a massive improvement. I'm really most interested to see in what direction they bring the game after the launch. We kinda know what is planned for the first few months after launch and what they want to do but it's what is beyond that which has me excited.

This articles not about Vanguard or The Old Republic, though.

Wow I don't even play or care about the game but this ending scene is making me interested in the game, lol

Like I say before and I'll say it again. SE, start making FF movies! (I personally like AC)

square enix does that well with it's cgi. I really wish they would just become a full on movie studio at this point.

maybe you guys are a bit young to have watched it in a theater but the rest of the gaming world does not want a sequel to final fantasy the spirits within.

I didn't play FF14, but GODDAMN, I wanna play 2.0. And it's all thanks to the trailer. SQUARE-ENIX, make more CG movies, FFS, that's where your true talent is.

Pretty much this. I mean, everywhere I look about this video, there's a big group of people who say the same thing that they should make a movie. Guess they don't remember/read up on the past

And how many of those people who dislike Spirits Within are the people who's complaints were "there's no chocobos/moogles/Cloud Strifes!"

Though regardless of how you feel about Spirits Within. Advent Children was also popular and well received so I don't see the point.

Basically, It's a given that Square really had no idea how to manage a movie-level studio.

Even if this weren't a factor, Square-Enix's financial situation really hasn't been doing all that well lately. To put money into what could end up a risky and costly venture is usually against corporate thinking when a company is struggling. Maybe when they get back on track, we'll see more from them in terms of movie or episodic CGI productions.

In the meantime, you could look up Dirge of Cerberus for PS2 if you want to see the true sequel to Advent Children. Wink

I've played Final Fantasy XIV since its first open beta (and bought the $80 limited edition of its first release), struggling through all the rough patches (and boy were they rough) and watching it evolve from the haphazard premature release that it was into something highly enjoyable. This trailer is the culmination of how far XIV's current dev team has come in bringing the game around full circle, and I cannot *wait* to see A Realm Reborn. As always, SE has delivered a delightful world and a wonderful set of characters, and I'm eagerly awaiting the 2.0 release so that I can see what's become of the world that I've been invested in for 2 years now.

Meanwhile, I have a downloaded copy of this trailer, and will proceed to watch it once a day just to see how many times I can watch it without getting tears in my eyes.

Advent Children was well received, by nostalgic fans hungry for something more out of what was largely seen as the pinnacle of Final Fantasy greatness. Overall though the film was actually not that well received outside of the central fan circles, and to be a full on movie studio you're going to have to do better than that.

Plus, it's one thing to make a very high quality CG trailer, but quite another to make a feature film, and I would frankly place Blizzards skill in CG trailers and cutscenes easily above Square Enix in creativity and quality and impact.

As for the trailer, yeah, it's nice. But it's a trailer, it's supposed to look nice and it's supposed to make you want to play. If every game lived up to its trailer than we'd have an endless supply of A+ releases out there, but we don't. Square makes good trailers and good cutscenes, but they're going to have to do better than make a pretty trailer after the absolutely horrendous debacle that was FFXIV.

You're right, it's not, and he clearly wasn't talking about those, so stop trying to derail the discussion.

Maybe if it was live-action and directed by Michael Bay it'd have done better in US theaters Laughing There probably wasn't enough talking animals making pop culture jokes for the general public to go see a CG animated film.

Generalize much? Advent Children was barely any better than a Michael Bay film. It was just a bunch of cliche fansturbation scenes to cash in on a hungry fanbase. Instead of explosions and crashes you got flashy fight scenes and the obligatory monster battle; in the end everything that Michael Bay films are known for except catering to a different fanbase. When it comes to substances and story the film presented next to nothing.
