According to his mother, the student "drew a glove with flames coming out of it."

I remember as a very young kid playing a Mario game for the Super Nintendo where Mario shot fire through his gloves. Now granted, so did Yoshi, but the fact of the matter is, he may have just copied that image or something similar.

I am not coming the kid's defense here, but I've personally meet people in my life that enjoy deconstructing and rebuilding items. Some of them are engineers, technicians and even successful businessmen. You'd be surprised how profitable and marketable having the knowledge of how items are designed and work is.

I guess in today's world you can't be too careful, but based on the article, it's still vague in this instance.

Isn't that the purpose of LEGOs? Deconstructing and Rebuilding things?

And so it begins I guess. The annual witchhunt after a national tragedy stemming from mass paranoia and ignorance.

My thoughts exactly. So this report is telling me that if I draw any weapon or character holding a weapon from now on, I have a slight chance of being insane. Me and my friend re-draw comic heroes and some anime characters who hold weapons. Guess were insane or might be plotting something now, because we aren't fans or anything.

I don't know though. Maybe this report is legit or maybe it's just paranoia, but from my personal experiences in school. When you get bored you draw EVERYTHING to keep from going to sleep. Heck I drew an apple over a bow and arrow once for no reason at all.

This is ridiculous. There is no mention of any threat or possession of anything illegal. Violating a kid's civil rights for drawing a doodle is inhuman. Someone needs to be fired and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

And I thought EVERY house has chemicals that could go boom when mixed properly. I think we should stop playing Cops & Robbers as kids, clearly that's where this all begins! No, wait, stop having sex, people! Especially after the 5th dinner and a movie date where the movie is an action film! Don't have sex after The Expendables 3!

From the pressofAtlanticCity-article covering this story;
Quote:
Cedar Creek opened in September 2010 as a magnet school with programs focusing on engineering and environmental sciences and specializing in hands-on learning.

I don't see anything wrong with authorities being cautious and looking for warning signs in abused/bullied children, but this is ridiculous. One of my friends in high school loved to deconstruct machinery and figure out how to put it back together because engineering is what he had in mind as a career. I could almost forgive them for overthinking his cartoon drawing, but putting the kid in a juvenile detention center is disgusting. I feel horrible that a child who poses no realistic threat is being put into an environment where he could be eaten alive by real criminals.

I really hope the poor kid didn't spend Christmas in there.

I used to draw guns and bombs all the time when I was a kid. Bloody, firey carnage.

I, uh, did get sent to the counselor frequently. But hey, look how well I turned out!

That explains a lot actually. Laughing I kid, I kid.

But yeah, I can see where the paranoia comes from. I'm not defending the kid or anything but after what Blanchimont posted, I've got my doubts.

I remember reading about students being arrested or expelled just for having a replica Death Note in class.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Note#Copycat_crimes_and_imitations
Is this incident with the drawings just pure stupidity or mass panic, fear & paranoia after the recent tragedies in Connecticut?
