Well yay!

Even though I don't care about AKB48 and frankly find the whole thing pretty creepy, the premise of this series is so bonkers and overwrought that I've always figured that it just might be fantastic. I've seen opinions from an impressive variety of sources that this is so. Besides, Mari Okada is on my good side after Lupin III ~The Woman Called Fujiko Mine~. I would never have expected it, but it transmogrifying a idol value pack into fiction seems to be sideways brilliant. ICE was glorious train-wreck and while I don't think that this is the same kind of thing, it should still be damned entertaining.

I feel similarly about real idols (and I can understand why some won't be able to not let recent events affect their enjoyment of the anime), but the AKB0048 anime is very, very good. One of the recent episodes is going to be difficult to top for one of the best episodes I watch all year.

You don't have to be part of the weird idol cult to enjoy AKB0048, just like you can do the same with Macross or any other idol anime. Shoji Kawamori likes idols, and idols he gets. No transforming mecha or love triangles though.

I really, REALLY wonder what Kawamori thinks of AKB48. Everything he's done indicates that as much as he likes idols, he's not a fan of the worst parts of idol culture.

Also, while the mecha may not transform, there ARE mecha, and the Flying Get transforms, but its a spaceship.

I've already started the second season and I don't mind that I probably got the plot spoiled for the first season. I mean, who watches this show for the story anyway?

I do, which is why I was waiting for the first series to be streamed. In any case, if the story is clearly the focus of a show, then I'll want to see if it's a good one. If it is, then I'll likely keep watching. If not, I'll probably drop the show.

I don't mean any offense, but I don't think you were being fair, since there are just as many viewers who watch anime for the story as there are who don't.

I only watched all of season one because of the story, not despite it. So far this season has been less compelling because of its early focus on the trappings of idoldom like the elections. If you haven't seen any of AKB0048 yet, I strongly recommend waiting until the first season is streamed.

The General Elections episode was the most moving episode of the series thus far.

So much character development and emotion packed into those 24 minutes.

Actually, I watch most anime for the story, but this one in particular I'm only sticking around for the great visuals, music, and the ridiculous over-the-top action-scenes. I honestly hadn't run into anyone who enjoyed the story until now.

So am I blind or is it not actually available for streaming yet? First couple episodes were supposed to go up yesterday morning but I'm only getting Next Stage episodes in the search.

When I go to the series page, I see the two episodes' icons/thumbnails under those of the sequel series. You might have to click on the 'AKB0048' name to make them appear, but they're there.

Ok, thanks. That's an odd way to list it - I was ignoring the Next Stage page listing and the individual episodes weren't showing up in the roku app search, just the 5 next stage episodes.

Edit: and now that I have it in my queue, I see the larger problem. The first series titles are still "AKB0048 next stage".

I've not been liking the followup season as much as I did the first, unfortunately. More guerrilla concerts, less akbingo please. The elections were ok, its just this show is best when its either about the interactions between the pairings (Sonati x Linda ftw) or about their terrorist actions. Very Happy

Its still a good show, but its not got me hanging on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode right now.

When I glanced at it on the PS3 yesterday, the 1st season eps were coming up after the Next Stage ones.
