The picture used is an ad from the April 2013 edition of Shounen Ace. One Japanese forum member received their copy early and posted the image in the article and from the source quoted.

By "it", do you mean the English translation? I read some of the first volume of the previously released set, and the English is mostly correct, although there are a few mistakes here and there (e.g. Then why was all I saw Haruhi's angry looks and grimaces?)

That sentence is actually correct grammatically, you're right in that it's unidiomatic(as another example, the phrase "Sounds this correct?" follows the correct question grammar, but needs a filler "do" inserted to follow the normal pattern).

What exactly is the point of a language-teaching textbook if it teaches incorrectly? Japan....
