And this is ONLY Japan, wait for Latin and America and! and other territories eventually. In some territories wont go to cinemas but directly to dvd/blu-ray thou.
One Piece Film Z wont be surpassed locally by DBZ film but with the oversea profits its will surely bring to toei, its most profitable franchise outside Japan, it will most likely beat One Piece. |

If they would have released this overseas for a limited cinema run over easter, they'd be looking at much bigger numbers.
I don't think they realize that DBZ is actually much more popular worldwide than it is in Japan! |

Are you talking worldwide or Japan ? In Japan, absolutely no chance. Worldwide, not happening unless it's released in movie theaters in the US and does decently there. |

What do you mean by that? The number of DBZ fans in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia(excluding japan) and Australia against the fans in Japan? Possibly the world wins against Japan, but if you look at the density of fans, is in Japan where DBZ is most popular, because for the rest of the world anime isn't mainstream, even DBZ(If you were to place DB in all the cinemas around the world, most people would know what is it, but the majority of them wouldn't watch it). |

Ragna, Toriko is not more mainstream than Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball is the second best selling manga series of all time. The fourth most watched anime based on a JUMP series of all time in Japan. Just because no one bought Kai merchandise doesn't mean the franchise is unknown. Even Kai had better ratings in Japan than Toriko.

^ This (although to be fair its hard to compare tv ratings today and 20 years ago as that would put shows like Captain Tsubasa or Yu-Yu Hakusho above One Piece in the mainstream which is absurd). The others on the list, ok, although Dragon Ball is still pretty mainsteam in its own right, but Toriko more mainstream than DB ? No way. And I'm willing to bet the figures of the Toriko movie coming out this summer will confirm that. |

The film should air in all the [expletive] world, so as the Japanese People (more than TOEI) takes into account our fanatism and start sending more stuff and series.
DBZ in the cinema, is a dream now a days in Argentina! |

For Japanese fans, DBZ is nostalgia from decades ago. Everyone in Japan is more busy watching One Piece and Toriko than they care about DBZ these days. For worldwide audiences, DBZ is anime, and what has probably introduced many fans to anime in the first place. The audience is huge. Kai did rather poorly in Japan, and yet due to worldwide demand, they are now doing the Buu saga (without any funding from sponsors for a Japanese TV run). This movie will do well in Japan, but the vast majority of any profit will come from Europe and the US. |

Don't wanna sound cynical or fanboyish but does this prove that the Dragon Ball franchise is still more popular and profitable than the Naruto franchise, considering that the Road To Ninja movie achieved only HALF of what Battle Of Gods did in the same period?

I don't think this specifically shows that no (whether or not it is true, no idea). Naruto has been shoveling out crap movies pretty much every year for quite a while now. They were always mediocre but theres a ton of them they have constantly been pushing on us for years. The DBZ movies may not really be better quality wise, but there hasn't been a new DBZ movie since the 90s when the 13th one came out. |

This is good news. Hopefully the film will have at least a limited theatrical run here.
 Dragon Ball Z, while not totally mainstream now, is still the most mainstream non-Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh! anime we have here (it may even give YGO a run for it's money), and was most definitely "mainstream" here at one point. It's also the anime here to sell the most DVDs. How that compares to Japan? I don't know. I've never lived there, but from what I've been hearing, Japan has moved on to other franchises like One Piece, and that DBZ is still Toei's biggest "international" franchise, hence the continuation of DBZ Kai outside Japan.

There's absolutely no doubt in my mind DBZ fans here in the states > Japan. It has always been huge here. No anime has done what DBZ has done here in the states. I mean Jesus. lol Pokemon/Yugioh are huge but not as big as DBZ here. It's the most mainstream here in the states anyway.
