If you're calling it crap just because of the 3D stuff they used for the first episode then I suggest you keep watching 2 or 3 episode after it. This is actually pretty good.

So I take it they did switch back to 2D, or at least made the CG less jarring?

in my opinion the clg only added to the show a lot...

compare the last few episodes of the anime to the first 3 and you will see the contrast. however, Kingdom manga much much better.

It may have gotten a little better but the cgi still looks bad and takes away from the story telling.
The only thing i'm thinking when i see it is ugly cgi, i find it hard to even read the subs.

It gradually gets better if you just watch it and it's a lot easier to watch than aku no hana. It looks bad at first but if you just bear with it then I'm sure you won't regret it. I almost dropped it the first time I saw it too but then my friend told me about it and by the time I reached episode 10 I was hooked.
