I love the book Tokyo Vice, but I'm a little wary of a movie version. The book has a very free flowing, ambiguous style as much of it is a memoir of different cases he saw and so jumps back and forth through time, something that is very difficult to adapt to screen. I'm really hoping for the best though

Holy hell. I'm friends with Jake, so this is pretty dang surreal. Jake and Daniel don't look too much alike, but Dan does have this kinda quasi-Jewish look to him and he's a super enthusiastic actor. I have high hopes.

I remember the podcast too - it made me go out and buy the book and read it. A very absorbing read, powerful and disturbing in parts. I wish the best for the movie version.

Interesting. If it gets more people to read Jake's writings even better.

I'm looking forward to his new book coming out. I'd drop him am email egging him on to get more work done on it except I owe him an article on Yakuza manga I promised some time ago.

Am I the only one who disliked this book? I don't know if it is true or not. That's a problem- I read a book sold as non-fiction and found it unbelievable, and there really wasn't much of any proof supplied outside of tales that felt like egotistical exaggeration. I've read a few damning reviews since I read it, several by those who claim to know Japan and the crime world there, a couple of whom are backed up with credentials that would lead me to believe them. I've talked to Japanese friends and read them passages and they laughed out loud at it. Considering that, I really felt like I wasted my time reading the book because I can't believe what it says.

I'm sure it will make an entertaining movie though.
