I'm glad to see they're still publishing books.

Does anyone know if they dropped Maiden Rose?

Well, this isn't surprising at all. The only things they seem to be doing anymore are yaoi titles... and Vampire Hunter D, which I will probably pick up at some point. No interest in any yaoi..

I'll be buying these.

Also I'm extremely happy to hear they didn't forget about Castle Mango! I really love the first volume of the series and have been waiting for news of v02 ever since.

Seconded ^^ When they announced that they were dropping all print series (even if temporarily) I gave up all hope of ever getting it...

Maiden Rose only has 2 published tankoban in Japan, which were both published in English. From what I understand the other two volumes worth of material that were published in anthology in Japan have not yet been collected into tankoban. Not sure why.

I'm personally relieved to see they are still licensing manga and publishing books. DMG seems to be taking over their entire BL publishing business, and I honestly have zero interest in it. I wasn't annoyed when they pushed back all their BL publications by six months, but they pushed a whole bunch of them back again (until next year), including the only title I actually still care about (Aoi Hitsuji no Yume). Taking over Yaoi-con also didn't bother me, until I found out they were skipping this year...

Agreed. Not to mention that some of the print manga that they pushed back was already set for release a mere month away (ie. ZE v07, The Tyrant Who Falls in Love v08). Someone made an interesting point on their website, stating that it was likely that those particular manga had already been printed and that they were probably sitting in warehouses languishing while DMP gets their collective ***** together and figures out what the heck they want to do. I'm still waiting for that re-print of ZE volume 6 (something they promised months ago), and the slated release of volume 7 has been pushed back again to September (IIRC). I see no end in sight for volumes 8, 9, 10 or 11. If it's taking over six months to release a manga that's probably been sitting in their warehouse for months, then one can only imagine the length of time before we see the last four volumes - that is if we do. They've also pushed back their time table for the print version of Hidaka Shoko's Hana wa Saku ka series yet again.

So perhaps I'm being a cynic here, but I can't get too excited for more licensing print news when they're already so far behind with other series. On the other hand, I am pretty happy to see that we will see the last volume of Castle Mango.

I doubt they are sitting on printed books. What tends to hold publishers and particularly DMI up is the cost of printing (and subsequent cost of warehousing printed books). If the books are printed we will see them in the Akadot store immediately (they need to make their money back right away, so they won't sit on them).

That's why we are seeing a push towards digital on the English publishers' side (the Japanese publishers are still largely reluctant to allow digital distribution). DMG seems to be what DMI wants from their BL manga because it costs them nothing upfront (no licensing fee, no cost of translation and no cost of printing). For a niche genre like BL, that already has had a lot of print titles released into the market, digital is the logical choice for publishers to want to take. For their hentai titles, DMI seems to be pushing for printed books more, since the market still has few printed titles available in English. That's probably why we saw a stop in their printing of their licensed BL titles while they continued to print their Project-H titles. The money for printing is being put into their new imprint and is not available for use on their BL titles (which they are currently making money from digital sales through DMG).

I honestly half-expected them to give up on print all-together and move their entire catalogue to digital through DMG. I didn't expect to see them announce a new BL license for print release, though we have actually seen a few in the last couple years, as I worried that the few titles they started releasing in print before DMG would be their last. I'm still angry about the second push back of AHnY volume 6, but if buying print BL is the only way they are going to know that people still want print BL, I will still buy printed books from them.

EDIT: Speaking of which, DMI just tweeted that Tyrant 8 and Ze 7 are back from the printers early (they will be in the Akadot shop next week).
